OnePlus 12 to feature a periscope lens, specs leaked

The phone will launch in China in December

The OnePlus 11 was launched in China in January this year, and the global launch happened a month later. The phone was launched with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, 100W charging, a Quad-HD+ display, and more. While we are still in mid-2023, the specifications of the next OnePlus flagship are already here. The OnePlus 12 is reportedly launching in December this year in the Chinese market, and the specifications of the engineering sample were shared by Yogesh Brar on Twitter.

OnePlus 12

The OnePlus 12 will feature Qualcomm’s next flagship chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (SM8650). This shouldn’t be a surprise considering the flagship OnePlus phones always feature the most powerful chipset by Qualcomm. The display, battery size, and charging speed will be the same as OnePlus 11 – a 6.7″ QHD+ 120Hz AMOLED, a 5,000mAh battery, and 100W wired charging.

But one interesting thing is the camera setup on this phone. As per the source, the OnePlus 12 will feature a periscope lens, making it the first OnePlus flagship to have this feature.

There will be a triple camera setup on the rear, including a 50MP Sony IMX890 sensor for the primary camera, a 50MP sensor for the ultrawide camera & a 64MP sensor for the periscope camera. We do not know the zoom capabilities of this periscope camera, but it is also possible that OnePlus 12 has the same 64MP periscope camera as the recently launched Oppo Reno 10 Pro+. In that case, the periscope camera should offer 3x optical zoom, which would be pretty underwhelming since the last year’s OnePlus 10 Pro had a standard telephoto lens offering up to 3.3X optical zoom.

We hope OnePlus 12’s periscope camera offers at least 5X optical zoom; otherwise, we don’t see any reason for having it instead of a standard telephoto lens.
