ZTE Axon 40 Ultra – Here is our first look

It will feature the 3rd gen under-display camera tech

When it comes to under-display cameras, one company that comes to mind is ZTE. It was the first brand to launch a phone with an in-display camera, the Axon 20 5G. The implementation was not perfect, but it was indeed a good start. Then last year, we got the ZTE Axon 30 with a  2nd generation under-display camera. ZTE made the selfie camera almost invisible when not in use with this new generation of in-display camera tech. Now, the company is preparing to launch the Axon 40 series that will feature the 3rd generation under-display camera tech.

ZTE Axon 40 Ultra

The above image was shared by Digital Chat Station on Weibo, and it shows the ZTE Axon 40 Ultra from the front. The caption of the image says that this is currently the best under-display camera implementation on a smartphone. As per some leaks, this is a premium flagship by the brand and features the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SOC along with 80W fast charging.

In another post, Digital Chat Station shared the camera specs of an upcoming device that could be the Axon 40 Ultra. The post mentioned a primary 64MP 1/1.7″ custom sensor, another 64MP 1/1.7″ sensor for ultrawide shots, and a 64MP 1/2″ sensor with a periscope lens. The reason why we think these are the camera specs of the Axon 40 Ultra is due to the fact that the ZTE Axon 30 Ultra also featured three 64MP sensors on the rear along with a fourth 8MP sensor.

Well, not a lot is known yet, so we will have to wait. ZTE has not yet revealed the launch date, but the company has officially announced that the Axon 40 series is coming soon.
