Last year’s Axon 20 from ZTE was a special phone because it featured an in-display selfie camera, making it the World’s first phone with this tech available for consumers. It was a mid-range device with Snapdragon 765G, but today, ZTE launched two phones under the Axon 30 series, and while both are flagships with Snapdragon 888, the ZTE Axon 30 Ultra is an absolute monster with some specs that are unheard of. For Example, it has not one or two but three 64 Megapixel cameras on the back.
It is a premium flagship phone from ZTE, so there is a glass and metal build. The phone also has a variant with a vegan leather back panel. There is a big camera module on the top left corner that has a Quad camera array in it, and it is the main USP of this phone as well. This is because three out of four rear cameras have a 64-megapixel sensor. The primary shooter has a 64 Megapixel Sony IMX686 sensor with OIS and an f/1.6 aperture lens. Then there is a second 64 Megapixel camera for taking ultrawide shots and a third 64 Megapixel camera with an f/1.9 aperture lens and 35 mm focal length.
Finally, the fourth camera is a periscope-style Zoom lens that offers 5X Optical Zoom, and there is OIS for the primary as well as the periscope camera.
ZTE Axon 30 Ultra has a display with curved edges and a hole-punch cutout in the middle. This is a 6.67-inch OLED panel featuring a 144Hz refresh rate, 300Hz touch-sampling rate, and 1080p resolution. The display comes with Gorilla Glass 5 protection and supports HDR10+. Speaking of that selfie shooter, it is a surprise that while Axon 20 of last year had an in-display selfie camera, Axon 30 Ultra has a hole-punch camera. Anyways, it is a 32 Megapixel sensor.
Under the hood, Axon 30 Ultra packs the latest and greatest Snapdragon 888 SOC paired with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. Speaking of storage, the highest-end variant of this phone offers 16GB RAM and 1TB of storage!
There is a big 4,600mAh cell underneath that can be topped up quickly, thanks to 66W fast charging support.
Finally, Android 11 runs out of the box with the company’s skin on top. There are four color options – Black, White, Mint, and Vegan Leather. For the Chinese market, the pricing is as follows –
- 8GB RAM + 256GB ROM – 4,698 Yuan ($720)
- 12GB RAM + 256GB ROM – 4,998 Yuan ($766)
- 16GB RAM + 1TB ROM – 6,666 Yuan ($1,020)
ZTE also announced that the Axon 30 Ultra would make its way out of the Chinese market into markets like the USA, Canada, and Europe, but the price for these markets is yet to be announced.
