Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 is now official & this is the 4th generation foldable flip phone by the company. Interestingly, the phone launched at the same price as last year’s Z Flip 3, at least in the US. And for the same price, you get better performance, a new hinge design, a bigger battery, faster charging, and more. So slowly and slowly, the cost of foldable smartphones is getting lower, e.g., the first generation Z Flip launched at $1,380, the Z Flip 5G at $1,499, and the last year’s Z Flip 3 at $999.
Design-wise, the Z Flip 4 looks the same as the Z Flip 3. But, there are upgrades in the materials used in the design. For example, compared to Gorilla Glass Victus on the Z Flip 3, the Z Flip 4 gets the Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection. Samsung was also able to reduce the gap when the phone is folded, thanks to a redesigned hinge that is slimmer. The fingerprint scanner is on the side, so Samsung has no plans yet to go for an under-display fingerprint scanner.
As for the features, there is a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a Full-HD+ resolution and an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120Hz. Samsung has also reduced the bezels around the display. The cover display has a 1.9-inch Super AMOLED panel. Under the hood, there is the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SOC & up to 512GB of storage.
The primary camera on the outside has a 12MP main sensor with OIS, 1.8-micron pixels, and Dual Pixel AF. The second camera has a 12MP sensor, and it is for ultrawide shots, thanks to a 123-degree lens. Finally, the foldable display has a 10MP selfie camera.
One of the most significant upgrades comes in the battery department since the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 has a 3,700mAH cell, compared to a 3,300mAh battery of the Z Flip 3. Also, there is faster charging this time at 25W vs. 15W. There is support for wireless charging as well as Wireless Powershare.
Out of the box, the Z Flip 4 runs on Android 12 based on OneUI 4.1.1.
The color options are named Blue, Bora Purple, Pink Gold, and Graphite. The phone starts at $999 in the US, £999 in the UK, and €1,099 in Europe. The phone will begin shipping on the 26th of August.
