In our previous article, we talked about the all-new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, which features an under-display selfie camera. Along with that phone, Samsung also launched the Galaxy Z Flip 3. So, as we already knew, Samsung skipped the Galaxy Z Fold 2 in order to keep both the Z Fold & Z Flip in sync in terms of naming. In this article, we will be talking about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3, which is the successor of the Galaxy Z Flip 5G. It brings some significant upgrades such as a new design, a bigger cover display, new silicon, and more.
Design-wise, there is now a two-tone look on the outside, so the outer part is black in color that houses the dual-camera setup and the cover display. Since the size of the cover display had to be increased, the cameras are now placed vertically instead of horizontally. It gets the same “Armor Aluminum” frame as the Z Fold 3, which is the toughest aluminum used on a Samsung phone. There is Corning Gorilla Glas Victus on the outside.
The Galaxy Z Flip 3 also brings Stereo Speakers on board with Dolby Atmos. The fingerprint scanner sits on the right side and doubles as the power button.
The cover display is now a 1.9-inch Super AMOLED with a resolution of 260 x 512 pixels and 302ppi pixel density. So, it is no longer that tiny 1.1-inch screen that was there on the Z Flip 5G. Now, you can use this cover display to do a lot more. For example, without having to open the phone, you can see the notifications and the messages, capture photos and video (using the power button to open the camera app), and more.
On the inside, there is a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a Full-HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 425ppi pixel density. There is a hole-punch cutout on the inside display that has the 10 Megapixel selfie camera in it. Speaking of the cameras on the outside, there is a dual-camera setup that includes a primary 12-megapixel camera with f/1.8 aperture, 1.4-micron pixels, OIS, and Dual Pixel AF. There is a second 12 Megapixel ultrawide camera.
Under the hood, there is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SOC paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. The battery size is the same as Z Flip 5G, i.e., a 3,300mAh unit with support for wired as well as wireless charging. There is support for 15W fast wired charging, 11W wireless charging, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 comes in a plethora of colors, including Cream, Green, Lavender, Phantom Black, Gray, White, and Pink. In terms of the pricing, it starts at $999.99 / €1,049 / £949.
Just as in the case of the Z Fold 3, the pre-orders have started today, and the sale begins on the 27th of August.
