MediaTek’s next flagship SOC is named Dimensity 9000

It is not the Dimensity 2000, as per Ice Universe

It is not a secret anymore that soon, two of the top smartphone chip makers are going to launch their new flagship SOCs for the next year. So far, what we were expecting was the MediaTek’s flagship to be called Dimensity 2000, whereas that from Qualcomm to be called Snapdragon 898. But, it looks like that is not the case! As per Ice Universe, a very reliable source, the final names of these two SOCs are different.

He tweeted that MediaTek will launch its flagship as the Dimensity 9000, not as the Dimensity 2000. Now, while this huge jump in numbers is weird, we are not surprised. This is because, as we know, the Dimensity 9000 will give the Qualcomm flagship a run for its money. This is not something we see from MediaTek because, as we know, the most powerful SOC from MediaTek this year did not even come close to the Snapdragon 888, let alone the Snapdragon 888 Plus.

Now, in terms of Qualcomm’s naming scheme, things are quite complicated. It is expected that the Snapdragon 898 could actually be called the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Now, this name is not yet finalized by Qualcomm, and we hope it doesn’t get finalized at all because it is not a very good naming style for sure.

Well, we already have the leaked specifications of both the Qualcomm & MediaTek flagships, so you can check them out. We don’t have any information on whether Samsung is also planning to change the name of its next Exynos SOC or not. Stay tuned.
