Xiaomi launched its first foldable phone in April 2021, the Mi Mix Fold. While it was the company’s first attempt at a foldable phone, the spec sheet was impressive. It was the first phone in the world to have Liquid Lens technology, and at the time of its launch, it had the largest foldable screen among all the foldable phones in the market. In August last year, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 was launched, with an improved hinge design, resulting in a 5.4mm thickness when unfolded. The company is now prepared to launch its third foldable phone, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3.
The official launch is happening on August 14, and while there are a few days left, CEO Lei Jun has shared the official images on Weibo, giving us our best look at the design.
The main design upgrade will be in the camera module. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 appears to have a Quad camera setup, compared to a triple camera setup on the Fold 2. The phone has the same LEICA branding as last year, and below this branding, some camera specs are mentioned.
We can also see that the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 has a periscope camera on the rear, making it one of the few foldable phones to feature a periscope camera. The focal length is 115mm (meaning 5X optical zoom), a significant upgrade from the Fold 2, which had a 45mm telephoto lens. The text on the camera module says that among all four cameras, the minimum aperture value is f/1.8, whereas the maximum is f/2.9.
The official images show two color options – Black & Gold, where the Black color option has a leather texture on the back. The Gold color option reportedly has a ceramic back.
There is not much information on the specifications yet, but we expect the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 to have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SOC.
