Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 is now official, and as we already knew, this is the first smartphone by Xiaomi which features an under-display selfie camera. It is a premium flagship phone from the brand, and hence the main features of it include the Snapdragon 888 Plus SOC, a Ceramic back, 120W charging, and more.
Since the under-display selfie camera is its main USP, let’s talk about that first. So, the selfie camera is placed in the middle on top, and this is a CUP panel with what Xiaomi calls “Micro-diamond” pixels. To improve the transparency, there is a re-designed circuit array, and to reduce the diffraction, there are transparent subpixel circuits. The camera placed underneath this panel has a 20 Megapixel sensor featuring four-in-one superpixel technology. On top of all of that, there are extra algorithms that are used to improve the overall clarity of the photo taken via this camera.
The area above the camera has a pixel density of 400 pixels per inch, so Xiaomi didn’t follow the technique used by ZTE last year in which the pixel density is reduced for the area above the camera. Speaking of the display itself, it is a 6.67-inch 3D curved 10-bit AMOLED with Full-HD+ resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and Gorilla Glass Victus protection.
Under the hood, Mi Mix 4 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus chipset, which is paired with the LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. There is a ceramic back instead of a glass back which makes the phone look and feel even more premium. There are Stereo speakers that are tuned by Harman Kardon. The USB Type-C port is present on the bottom, and the phone lacks a headphone jack. The phone also has Ultra Wide Band (UWB).
In terms of the cameras on the rear, there are three cameras in total where the primary one has a 108 Megapixel Samsung HMX sensor (1/1.33-inch) with Optical Image Stabilization. Then, there is a 13 Megapixel ultrawide camera with 120-degree FOV, and finally, there is an 8 Megapixel periscope camera with 5X Optical Zoom. One cool thing about the ultrawide camera is that compared to the typical ultrawide camera on smartphones that normally has around 20% edge distortion, the free-form ultrawide camera of the Mi Mix 4 has just 1% edge distortion.
The battery size is 4,500mAh, and there is support for a ridiculous 120W fast wired charging and 50W fast wireless charging. Xiaomi claims that the maximum temperature of the rear panel will be 37-degrees when charging on the 120W default mode. There is also a boost mode that will charge the phone faster, but it also results in higher temperatures.
As we know, the phones with Snapdragon 888/888 Plus have some heating issues, so for this reason, Mi Mix 4 offers a balanced mode that controls the temperature and also helps in getting good battery life.
So, that’s the all-new Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 & in terms of colors, the Mi Mix 4 is offered in three colors – Black, White, and Silver. All of these color options have a ceramic back. Here is the pricing for the Chinese market –
- 8GB + 256GB – ¥4999 (~$770)
- 8GB + 128GB – ¥5299 (~$817)
- 12GB + 256GB – ¥5799 (~$894)
- 12GB + 512GB – ¥6299 (~$971)
In China, Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 will go on sale on the 16th of August, and the phone is also coming to the global markets. However, the global launch date is not yet official.
