The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset was unveiled last year in June, and it was the first chipset in the “4” series built on the 4nm process. There were some significant upgrades over the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1, including support for LPDDR5X RAM, UFS 3.1 storage, a 10% faster CPU, and a faster 5G modem.
The company is going to launch a new chipset under this series soon, the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2. While the company has not officially announced the SOC, Evan Blass has shared all the details on Twitter.
The Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 sits between the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 & 4 Gen 2 in performance. It is built on the 4nm process and has an octa-core CPU with two performance cores and six efficiency cores. The clock speed goes up to 2.0GHz. The display support has gone down from 120Hz FHD+ in the 4 Gen 2 to 90Hz FHD+ in the 4s Gen 2.
While the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 supports UFS 3.1 storage, the chip does not support LPDDR5x RAM like the 4 Gen 2. Instead, it supports LPDDR4x RAM, up to 2133MHz.
There is no 108MP camera support, something even the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 had.
Well, based on these specifications, it is not hard to figure out that the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 chipset is for entry-level 5G phones. We should see some phones launching with the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 SOC in the coming months.
