The Huawei Pura 80 series is now official in the Chinese market, and this is the successor to the Huawei Pura 70 series, which featured camera-centric phones from Huawei last year. The Pura 80 series has four smartphones, for now. These include the vanilla Pura 80, the Pura 80 Pro, the Pura 80 Pro+, and the Pura 80 Ultra.
HUAWEI PURA 80
Starting with the vanilla model, the Huawei Pura 80 has the iconic triangular camera module, which has become an identity of this series. The camera module features three cameras, an LED flash, and a color spectrum sensor. There is a metal frame, a glass back, and a flat display on the front. The display has the second-generation Kunlun glass. The phone is IP68 and IP69-certified. There are stereo speakers.
There is no information on the chipset used in the Huawei Pura 80. There is 12GB RAM with up to 1TB storage. The phone packs a 5,600mAh battery with 66W wired and 50W wireless charging support. The phone also supports satellite communication via the Beidou constellation. The phone can be used to send and receive not just messages, but also photos.
Speaking of cameras, the Huawei Pura 80 has three rear cameras. The primary camera has a 50MP sensor with OIS and a variable aperture lens, which can shift between f/1.4 and f/4.0. The ultrawide camera has a 13MP sensor. There is a periscope telephoto camera with a 12MP sensor, OIS, and a 5.5x optical zoom. The phone also has a 1.5MP color spectrum sensor.
There is a flat 6.6-inch 1.5K LTPO OLED panel with up to a 120Hz refresh rate, 1440Hz PWM dimming, and a 10-bit color depth. The phone runs on HarmonyOS 5.1 out of the box.
There is no information on the pricing yet.
HUAWEI PURA 80 PRO
The Huawei Pura 80 Pro features a quad-curved display and hence a rounded frame. The camera module is larger than the Huawei Pura 80’s. That’s pretty much all that’s different in terms of the design.
In terms of specifications, the phone has a 6.8-inch 10-bit 1.5K LTPO OLED panel with a 1440Hz PWM dimming and a 120Hz refresh rate. There is the same second-generation Kunlun Glass protection as the vanilla model. The battery is slightly larger at 5,700mAh and the charging speeds are also upgraded. The Huawei Pura 80 Pro supports 100W wired charging and 80W wireless charging.
The camera setup has three main sensors. The primary rear camera has a 1-inch 50MP sensor with a variable aperture lens (f/1.4-f/4.0) and OIS. The ultrawide camera has a 40MP sensor. There is a telephoto macro camera with a 48MP sensor, OIS, and 4x optical zoom. The phone has the same 1.5MP color spectrum sensor on the rear as the vanilla model.
Huawei says the phone uses a new ‘Ark Engine’, which improves the performance by up to 36% versus the Huawei Pura 70 Pro. But again, we do not know what chipset Huawei is using in this device. There is the same Beidou satellite communication support as the vanilla model.
There is a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C port versus a USB 2.0 port on the Pura 80.

HUAWEI PURA 80 PRO+
Next up, we have the Huawei Pura 80 Pro+ which, as the name suggests, is an upgraded version of the Huawei Pura 80 Pro. Speaking of the similarities, the Huawei Pura 80 Pro+ has the same display, the same cameras, the same battery, and the same charging speeds. The difference? Well, the Pura 80 Pro+ supports not just Beidou satellite communication, but also the Tiantong satellite communication.
The Huawei Pura 80 Pro+ features 16GB of RAM and 512GB or 1TB of internal storage.
Here is the pricing for the Chinese market –
- 16GB + 512GB – ¥7999 (~$1,110)
- 16GB + 1TB – ¥8999 (~$1,250)
HUAWEI PURA 80 ULTRA
Finally, we have the star of the show, the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra. This is the most feature-packed phone in this series, hence the most expensive. Compared to the other three phones, the camera module on the Ultra is the biggest, and there is a good reason for it.
Let’s talk about the cameras first. There is a triple camera setup on the rear. The primary camera has a 1-inch 50MP RYYB sensor with a variable aperture lens (f/1.6-f/4.0) and OIS support. With a 16EV dynamic range, this is the first smartphone camera in the world to achieve this number. The ultrawide camera uses a 40MP sensor. There is a 1.5MP color spectrum sensor.
The main USP of the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra is its telephoto cameras. Both telephoto cameras use a massive 1/1.28-inch 50MP sensor, but this does not mean there are two such sensors on this phone. The two telephoto cameras share the same sensor. This is achieved via a unique mechanism under the hood, which shifts the sensor as per the camera selected for shooting.
The result? You get 3.7x and 9.4x optical zoom from the two telephoto cameras. Both cameras feature sensor-shift stabilization.
And well, that’s all about the Ultra.
Here is the pricing for the Chinese market –
- 16GB + 512GB – ¥9999 (~$1,390)
- 16GB + 1TB – ¥10999 (~$1,530)
