The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE was launched in October last year with an upgraded 50MP camera, an Exynos 2200 / Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SOC, and more for a starting price of $599. The brand has now unveiled its successor, the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE. The price has increased by $50, so the phone now starts at $649. For the price, there are some nice upgrades that the S24 FE brings.
Design-wise, the biggest update is on the side. The frame is flat, versus a rounded one on the S23 FE. This brings it in sync with the design of the flagship S24 series phones. The phone comes in five color options – Blue, Graphite, Gray, Mint, and Yellow. The phone has Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the front and back, versus Gorilla Glass 5 on the Galaxy S23 FE. There is an aluminum frame. The phone is IP68-certified and supports wireless charging. There are stereo speakers.
Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE has the Exynos 2400e chipset. Compared to the Exynos 2400, which has a CPU clocked at up to 3.2GHz, the Exynos 2400e has a CPU that goes up to 3.1GHz. Compared to the Galaxy S23 FE, there is a 1x larger vapor chamber inside the S24 FE for better thermal management.
The battery is 4,700mAh, up from 4,500mAh last year. The phone supports 25W fast wired charging and 15W wireless charging.
Speaking of the cameras, the camera setup is identical to the Galaxy S23 FE. The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE has three cameras on the back. The primary camera has a 50MP sensor with an f/1.8 lens and OIS. The ultrawide camera has a 12MP sensor with a 123-degree FOV. Finally, the telephoto camera has an 8MP sensor with 3x optical zoom and OIS. The selfie shooter has a 10MP sensor. The phone can shoot up to 8K 30fps videos from the rear camera.
The display is larger at 6.7″ versus 6.4″ last year. The peak brightness is 1900 nits (versus S23 FE’s 1450 nits), and the bezels are slimmer at 1.99mm (versus S23 FE’s 2.44mm bezels). It is a 120Hz Dynamic AMOLED 2X display.
In terms of weight, the Galaxy S24 FE weighs 213g, versus the 209g S23 FE. The thickness, however, has reduced to 8mm, versus 8.2mm last year.
Finally, speaking of software, the phone runs on Android 14-based OneUI 6.1 out of the box, and the company has promised seven years of OS and security updates. The phone has all the Galaxy AI features that we see in the flagship Samsung devices such as Circle to Search, Sketch to Image, Photo Assist, Live Translate, Interpreter, Browsing Assist, etc.
The price starts at $649 for the base 8GB + 128GB variant.
