Samsung has already officially announced that we are getting some new devices on the 9th of February at the ‘Galaxy Unpacked’ event, and as we know, the Samsung Galaxy S22 series is going to be the main highlight. This is Samsung’s flagship smartphone series for 2022, and like the previous year, three new phones are launching under this series at the Unpacked event – S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra. While we have got a ton of leaks so far, a massive leak has now uncovered every single detail of each of the three phones, thanks to WinFuture.
SAMSUNG GALAXY S22
The Galaxy S22 is Samsung’s compact flagship phone of 2022, and it has a small form factor than even the Galaxy S21 of last year. This is all due to a smaller 6.1-inch display on the front, and it is a flat panel with a hole punch in the middle. The Galaxy S22 is also the lightest phone in this trio, weighing 167 grams. It is also the thinnest at 7.6mm. There are stereo speakers, IP68 rating, and Wireless charging.
The color options are Phantom Black, White, Pink Gold, and Green. The display on the front is a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with Full-HD+ resolution, Gorilla Glass Victus protection, and up to 120Hz refresh rate. The peak brightness of this panel is 1500 nits, so that is an upgrade over the 1300 nits brightness of S21’s panel. The refresh rate can vary between 10Hz to 120Hz, depending on the screen.
Under the hood, the Galaxy S22 has either the Exynos 2200 or the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, depending on the region. So, for the European market, the phone has Exynos SOC, whereas, for the US, there is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip. These are built on a 4nm process and have one main Cortex-X2 core. The main USP of Exynos 2200 is its RDNA 2-based GPU, but to ensure thermals are in control, the Cortex-X2 core is clocked at 2.8GHz only, compared to 3.0GHz in the case of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. There is 8GB LPDDR5 RAM with 128GB or 256GB UFS 3.1 storage.
Coming to the cameras, the Galaxy S22 has three cameras on the rear, where the primary shooter has a 50MP sensor with an f/1.8 aperture lens, OIS, and 1.0μm pixel size. This is expected to be the Samsung GN5 sensor. For ultrawide shots, there is a 12MP sensor with 120-degree FOV, and finally, there is a 10MP telephoto with 1.4μm pixels, OIS, and 3X Optical Zoom. For selfies, there is a 10MP sensor with 1.22μm pixels.
The battery size is 3,700mAh, which is smaller than the 4,000mAh cell of Galaxy S21. Finally, Android 12 with OneUI 4.1 on top runs out of the box.
SAMSUNG GALAXY S22+
The Samsung Galaxy S22+ is not very different from the vanilla S22. The design is the same, and so are the color options. The only difference in design is that the S22+ is bigger in size, which is expected. It also weighs 195 grams, thanks to a bigger battery under the hood. As for the similarities between the S22 & S22+, there are plenty. For example, both the phones have the same SOC, the same storage options, and the same cameras.
The only significant difference is in the display and battery size. There is a larger 6.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel on the Galaxy S22+. The peak brightness is even more at 1750 nits, so that’s 450 nits more than what the display of Galaxy S21+ had. The battery size is 4,500mAh, so again, that is 300mAH smaller than the Galaxy S21+ of last year.
SAMSUNG GALAXY S22 ULTRA
Finally, we have the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, the most exciting phone under this lineup. It is entirely different from the other two phones in terms of design because it has a boxy Galaxy Note-like look. Speaking of the Galaxy Note, there is also an S-Pen slot this time to keep the S-Pen. The camera setup design is also changed this time compared to the S21 Ultra, so there is no longer any housing for the cameras. The color options are Phantom Black, White, Burgundy, and Green. All the color options have an S-Pen in Black, with only the top portion of the pen having the same color as the phone.
Unlike the other two phones, there is a slightly curved display on the Galaxy S22 Ultra. As expected, it is the heaviest phone under this series at 227 grams and also the thickest at 8.9 mm.
On the front, the Galaxy S22 Ultra has a large 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a variable refresh rate of 1-120Hz and a Quad-HD+ resolution (3080 x 1440 pixels). The display has Gorilla Glass Victus protection and a peak brightness of 1750 nits. The chipset is the same as the other two phones, but storage-wise, there is 8GB or 12GB RAM and 128GB or 256GB or 512GB storage.
In terms of the cameras, Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has a quad-camera array on the rear, where the primary camera has a 108MP sensor with OIS and f/1.8 aperture lens. There is a 12MP ultrawide with 120° FOV, a 10MP telephoto with 3X Optical Zoom + OIS, and a 10MP periscope lens with 10X Optical Zoom + OIS. For selfies, there is a 40MP sensor. The battery size is 5,000mAh.
And well, that is the Samsung Galaxy S22 series for you. Speaking of the price, we already know the European pricing, but just to recap, the Galaxy S22 starts at €849, the Galaxy S22+ at €1049, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra at €1249. All three phones have 8GB RAM and 128GB storage for the base variant.
