Oppo working on a 90Hz display phone, says VP

Every time we talk about a gaming smartphone, it does need a display with a higher refresh rate. But nowadays, we have normal phones like the OnePlus 7 Pro with a 90Hz display. Moreover, the upcoming Pixel 4 series is also coming with 90Hz screens.

It looks like Chinese Tech Giant “Oppo” is following the footsteps of its sibling, OnePlus, and gearing up for the launch of a 90Hz display smartphone. As the company’s Vice President, Brian Shen, has revealed, a smartphone wiṭh a 90Hz refresh rate screen is in the works.

Oppo Reno 2 Series Recently launched in India

After launching its Reno 2 series in India that consists of the Oppo Reno 2, Reno 2Z and the Reno 2F, now Oppo is planning to launch this series in China too on September 10. But as the series has already been launched in India, we do know all the specifications, and there is no smartphone in current Reno 2 series with a 90Hz display.

So, there is a possibility that at the launch event in China, Oppo may unveil a new handset that will feature a 90Hz display.

High refresh rate screens on smartphones is becoming more common these days, but the tech is reserved for the flagship phones or gaming smartphones. Currently, the Asus ROG Phone 2 is the only device that has a 120Hz AMOLED panel.  However, there are no games with this much high refresh rate so that we can take advantage of these displays.

For example, popular games like PUBG Mobile can touch a maximum of 60fps on high-end phones. Recently, PUBG is working on 90fps gaming that we could see in the Chinese beta version. We all know that high refresh rate is the future of gaming and companies are moving towards this. In fact, apart from just gaming phones, we will soon see normal flagships featuring high refresh rate screens as that’s the new trend.

So, is it time to say goodbye to the 60Hz screens? What do you think?
