Last month, Motorola launched the Edge 50 in the Indian market with a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 AE chipset, an IP68 rating, wireless charging, a curved display, and a 3x telephoto camera. The phone was launched at ₹27,999. Today, the Motorola Edge 50 Neo was launched in the Indian market. The phone was launched in Europe last month at €499 (which translates to ₹46,000). In India, the Edge 50 Neo has been launched at ₹23,999.
Design-wise, the Motorola Edge 50 Neo looks the same as the Edge 50 from the rear. It has the same camera module design, and the only difference is the color options. The Edge 50 Neo comes in four colors – PANTONE Nautical Blue, PANTONE Grisaille, PANTONE Latte, and PANTONE Poinciana. There is a premium vegan leather finish on the rear. Unlike the Motorola Edge 50, the Edge 50 Neo does not have a metal frame. Instead, the phone uses a plastic frame. The phone is IP68-certified and comes with MIL-STD-810H certification.
The biggest design difference between the Edge 50 Neo & The Edge 50 is on the front. While the Edge 50 features a curved display, the Edge 50 Neo has a flat panel. This is a 6.4-inch 10-bit LTPO pOLED display with a 120Hz refresh-rate, 3000 nits peak brightness, Gorilla Glass 3 protection, HDR10+ certification, and a 1.5K resolution. At this price, an LTPO display is a game-changer! The refresh-rate can go as low as 1Hz when required. What’s interesting is that no other phone under the Edge 50 series has an LTPO display, not even the Edge 50 Ultra.
Apart from the display, another highlight of the Edge 50 Neo is the camera setup. The phone packs a triple camera setup on the rear. The primary camera has a 50MP Sony LYT-700C sensor with OIS support and an f/1.8 lens. The ultrawide camera uses a 13MP sensor with PDAF that can shoot macro shots. Finally, there is a 10MP telephoto camera with a 3x optical zoom and OIS support. It is a shame that the video recording is limited to 4K 30fps from the rear camera.
For selfies, the phone has a 32MP sensor with autofocus and an f/2.4 lens. The phone can shoot 4K 30fps videos from the selfie camera.
And that’s not it! Another highlight of the Motorola Edge 50 Neo is the software. The phone runs on Android 14-based HelloUI out of the box, and the company has promised five Android OS updates for this phone. There is support for NFC, WiFi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.4.
As for performance, there is the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset with 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB UFS 2.2 storage. So, performance-wise, this is not up there with the best phones in this price segment. The battery is 4,310mAh, which seems pretty small on paper. The good thing is the phone supports 68W wired and 15W wireless charging.
The phone is available in a single configuration in India, and the price is ₹23,999.
