HMD launched a new smartphone in the mid-range segment named “Skyline,” with the main USP being design and repairability.
The design is inspired by the Nokia Lumia smartphones. The frame is made of 100% recycled aluminum, there is a glass back, and Gorilla Glass 3 is on the front.
The phone is IP55-rated and features a stereo speaker setup. The fingerprint sensor is embedded in the power button on the side. There is a USB 2.0 Type-C port on the bottom. The phone has a custom button on the side, which you can map to any action of your choice.
Under the hood, the HMD Skyline has the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset, which, considering the price, is not going to give you the best performance. There is 8GB or 12GB RAM with 128GB or 256GB storage. The phone also supports a microSD card of up to 512GB.
There is a 4,600mAh battery with support for 33W wired and 15W wireless magnetic charging. The phone can also charge other devices wirelessly at speeds up to 5W.
On the front, the HMD Skyline has a 6.55-inch Full-HD+ pOLED display with up to 144Hz refresh rate and 1000 nits peak brightness. The triple camera setup on the rear includes a 108MP primary sensor with OIS, a 13MP ultrawide camera, and a 50MP 2x telephoto camera. The selfie camera has a 50MP sensor with autofocus.
HMD Skyline runs on Android 14 out of the box, and the company has promised two Android OS updates.
Finally, speaking of repairability, the phone features “Gen2” repairability. To open the back cover, all you need to do is remove one screw, and you will be in. Various parts, such as the display module, battery cover, charging port, and battery, can be found on iFixit.
