Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 goes official with a 2.4GHz Kryo CPU

Redmi Note 13 series is the first to use this chip!

If there is one thing Qualcomm cannot do right, it’s naming the chipsets correctly. Today, the brand announced a new mid-range chip, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. This is the first time we have seen Qualcomm using the “s” in its chipset’s name. What’s more interesting is that even though this is the first chip under this “7s” series, the name still says “Gen 2”. This isn’t the first time they have done it. The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 was launched in March, but we did not get any Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1 or even the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2.

Anyways, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, as we know already, will debut with the Redmi Note 13 series on September 21. Interestingly, on the official website, Qualcomm has placed the 7s Gen 2 below the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 in the list of 7 series chipsets. And if you do not know, the list is usually ordered by performance.

The chip is built on the 4nm process, and Qualcomm did not reveal whether it is based on TSMC’s process or Samsung’s. But, as per Digital Chat Station, the 7s Gen 2 is based on Samsung’s 4nm process, like the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. This might not be good news, considering Samsung-made chipsets are usually known to heat more than the ones made by TSMC. The octa-core Kryo CPU has four performance cores clocked at up to 2.4GHz and four efficiency cores at up to 1.95GHz.

Qualcomm did not reveal which Adreno GPU the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 uses, but the Redmi Note 13 Pro benchmark report from Geekbench has revealed the GPU to be Adreno 710.

Other specifications include an X62 5G modem, Qualcomm FastConnect 6700, Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E, up to 1080p 144Hz display support, LPDDR5 RAM, Quick Charge 4+, and more.
