The newest foldables from Samsung are finally here. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 & Galaxy Z Flip 6 were launched at the Unpacked event today, and these are the sixth-generation foldable phones from the company. These are the successors to the Galaxy Z Fold 5 & Z Flip 5, and like last year, there is no big design upgrade this year. Both the devices feature some subtle design changes, but the overall design language remains the same.
SAMSUNG GALAXY Z FLIP 6
Starting with the cheaper of the two, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 has a similar folder-shaped cover display and a dual camera setup. This time, the camera lenses have the same colored ring around them as the rest of the phone. The phone also has less rounded edges than last year.
The phone comes in seven different color options, three of which are exclusively available on Samsung’s website. These color options are Blue, Yellow, Mint, Silver Shadow, Crafted Black, White, and Peach. Under the hood, the phone features a vapor chamber, making it the first Galaxy Z Flip with a vapor chamber. There is an Armor Aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection for the cover display. The phone is IP48 certified and has stereo speakers.
There is a USB 3.2 Type-C port on the bottom and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
Coming to the specifications, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 has a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel on the inside with a 1-120Hz refresh rate (LTPO). The cover display is a 3.4-inch Super AMOLED panel with a 720 x 748 pixel resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate. The phone has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy with 12GB RAM and 256GB or 512GB storage. The battery is 4,000mAh, up from 3,700mAh last year. The phone supports 25W wired and 15W wireless charging.
The primary camera on the outside gets an upgrade. The dual camera setup features a 50MP primary sensor with OIS and a 12MP ultrawide. The selfie camera on the inside uses a 10MP sensor.
The main focus was on the Galaxy AI at the unpacked event, and there are a lot of AI features for both the Z Flip 6 & Z Fold 6. Some of the AI features for the Z Flip 6 include Suggested replies, Photo Ambient, Auto Zoom, and more.
Finally, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 runs on Android 14-based OneUI and will get Android updates for the next seven years.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 starts at $1099.
SAMSUNG GALAXY Z FOLD 6
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 has a more boxy design this year, similar to the Galaxy S24 series. The bezels on the outer display are not slimmer, resulting in a 22.1:9 aspect ratio. Samsung says it added a 60% larger vapor chamber in the Z Fold 6 than the predecessor, and this was achieved by redesigning the hinge. Moreover, the phone is IP48 certified, like the Z Flip 6. The frame is made of Armor aluminum, and there is Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection for the outer display.
Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, paired with 12GB RAM and up to 1TB storage. The battery is 4,400mAh, the same size as last year. The charging speeds are also the same – 25W wired, 15W wireless, and 4.5W reverse wireless. The camera setup remains unchanged, too. The phone has the same 50MP + 12MP + 10MP triple camera setup on the back, a 10MP selfie camera for the cover display, and a 4MP selfie camera for the foldable display.
As for the displays, there is a slightly larger 6.3-inch cover display, and it is a Dynamix AMOLED 2X LTPO panel with a 2376 x 968 pixel resolution and a 1-120Hz refresh rate. The foldable display is a 7.6-inch Dynamix AMOLED 2X LTPO panel with a 2160 x 1856 pixel resolution and a 1-120Hz refresh rate. So, the aspect ratios are slightly different than the predecessor, and it is evident in the resolutions.
Finally, there are a lot of Galaxy AI features built-in, such as Note Assist, Circle to Search, Interpreter, Sketch to Image, and more.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 starts at $1899.
