Today, Redmi launched two budget phones in India, the Redmi 13C & the 13C 5G. As the names suggest, one is a 4G phone, whereas the other has 5G support. The price starts at ₹8,999 for the 13C and ₹10,999 for the 13C 5G. This is quite interesting since a few months ago, the Redmi 12 5G was launched in India at ₹11,999.
REDMI 13C
The 13C is the successor to the Redmi 12C, which was launched in April with a MediaTek Helio G85 chipset for ₹8,999. The 13C comes with the same price tag and some upgrades. It is also worth mentioning that the 13C is the same phone as the Poco C65, launched last month in Europe.
Compared to the Redmi 12C, the design is a bit different this time. The camera module on the back has two circles, one with the primary sensor and the other with two other sensors. There is a waterdrop notch on the front, but it is smaller than the Redmi 12C. The phone doesn’t have any textured finish on the rear, something the Redmi 12C had.
There is a USB Type-C port on the bottom, compared to a micro-USB port on the 12C.
In terms of specifications, the Redmi 13C is not a lot different than its predecessor. There is the same MediaTek Helio G85 chipset, LPDDR4X RAM, eMMC 5.1 storage, a 5,000mAh battery, and a 720p LCD. As for the differences, the display is slightly larger at 6.74-inch and the refresh rate is 90Hz (versus 60Hz). One thing worth mentioning is the typical brightness of the display since it is lower in the 13C (450 nits) vs. the 12C (500 nits).
The camera specifications are also quite similar. The Redmi 13C has a 50MP primary camera sensor with an f/1.8 lens and a 2MP macro camera. There is a third sensor too, but Redmi just says “auxiliary lens” on the official website. For selfies, there is an 8MP sensor, an upgrade over the 5MP camera on the Redmi 12C.
The charging speed is bumped up to 18W, but you still get a 10W adapter in the box.
Finally, Android 13 runs out of the box with MIUI 14 on top.
Redmi 13C comes in two colors – Stardust Black & Starshine Green. Here is the pricing –
- 4GB + 128GB – ₹8,999
- 6GB + 128GB – ₹9,999
- 8GB + 256GB – ₹11,499
REDMI 13C 5G
The Redmi 13C 5G is a premium-looking phone, thanks to that unique design on the back. Redmi calls it the “Star Trail Design.” There is a dual camera setup on the rear, a flat frame, and a flat display. The phone is splash and dust-resistant and has Gorilla Glass protection on the front.
Under the hood, the phone has the MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ 5G SOC with LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage. The battery is 5,000mAh, and there is 18W fast charging support. In the box, however, you get a 10W adapter.
The display is a 6.74-inch 720p LCD with up to a 90Hz refresh rate. The dual camera setup on the rear includes a 50MP primary sensor. The company did not mention anything about the second camera. The selfie shooter has a 5MP sensor.
Finally, Android 13 runs out of the box with MIUI 14.
