Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 announced with the new Kryo 460 cores

In past years, we have hardly seen any company giving a tough competition to Qualcomm regarding making chipsets for smartphones. But this year, MediaTek pulled an ace by launching the MediaTek Helio P60 processor that is a great mid-range processor from the company. It competed with the likes of Snapdragon 636 and the 660 and even outperformed them in some cases. There are now reports that MediaTek is already working on P70, which is going to be a more powerful processor for mid-range phones.

Looking at this situation, Qualcomm launched Snapdragon 710 processor this year followed by the Snapdragon 670. Today, the company announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 675, a chipset based on the Samsung’s 11LPP process that sits between the Snapdragon 670 and 710 regarding the performance. Interestingly, the Snapdragon 670 is still new, and we are yet to see any phone with this processor launching outside the Chinese market.

Kedar Kondap, the Vice President of Product Management in Qualcomm Technologies Inc. said –

The Snapdragon 675 plays a primary role in allowing OEMs to design next-generation features with incredible performance into their upcoming smartphones. Packed with advanced gaming abilities, remarkable camera performance and a multi-core AI Engine, Snapdragon 675 based smartphones will bring new experiences to consumers globally.

One of the highlights of the Snapdragon 675 is that it features the all-new Kryo 460 cores. If we talk about the number, the Kryo 460 cores seem more powerful and better than the Kryo 385 cores that power the Snapdragon 845. But, it all comes down to clock speed and the configuration. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 has two Kryo 460 cores based on Cortex A76 and six based on Cortex A55.

So, after the Kirin 980, the Snapdragon 675 is second to have the all-new Cortex A76 cores for high-performance tasks like gaming. The high-performance Kryo 460 cores can reach clock speed up to 2GHz.The GPU is Adreno 612, i.e., the same GPU as we saw with the Snapdragon 670. Same is the case with the Spectra 250 ISP.

The Snapdragon 675 is also the first to support triple cameras on the rear or front. It supports features like telephoto, super wide angle or wide angle, 3D Face Unlock, Bokeh Mode etc.

There is a multi-core AI Engine that can deliver up to 50% improvements in the AI applications. Other features of the Snapdragon 675 include Quick Charge 4+ support, Snapdragon X12 modem, Support for Qualcomm Aqstic and Qualcomm aptX etc.

We can expect phones with Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 in Q1 2019.
