Oppo showcases under-display selfie camera technology

It won’t be wrong to say that among tech giants like Apple, Google & Samsung, companies like Oppo, Vivo, Huawei, etc. are doing the real innovation by adding some mind-blowing features to their phones. And this is now new.

Vivo was the first company to launch a phone with in-display fingerprint scanner, Oppo N1 was the world’s first phone with a rotating camera, Oppo was the first to showcase 10X Lossless Zoom, Vivo NEX was the first phone with pop-up selfie camera, Huawei P20 Pro launched as the world’s first triple camera phone, Kirin 980 was the first 7nm chipset to be announced, Huawei Nova 4 was the first phone to launch with a hole-punch display etc.

So, there are a ton of examples that give us the idea that these Chinese brands are doing much better work than other big tech giants when it comes to innovation. And today, Oppo announced yet another technology that it’s working on – the under-display selfie camera.

Yes, after the under-display fingerprint scanner, it’s time for the under-display selfie camera. So, what’s the need for this? Well, as we know, smartphone companies are continually working on reducing the bezels on the front & for that, there are currently two ways to place the front camera – either inside the cutout in the display itself (hole-punch) or adding a slider.

Still, the former means there isn’t a clean bezel-less design due to the presence of that cutout & the latter includes moving parts. Now, to cope with this, Oppo is working on the under-display selfie camera technology which means the selfie camera is placed under the display & is hidden for all the time unless you want to use the front camera.

This technology will eliminate the need to add a cutout or any slider for the front-facing camera & achieve that fully bezel-less design.
