In December last year, Oppo launched the Reno 3 Series in China which included the Reno 3 & Reno 3 Pro. The latter was truly a beautifully designed phone with gradient back & a curved display on the front. Today, the Oppo Reno 4 Series launched in China & to no surprise, it includes the Reno 4 & Reno 4 Pro smartphones. This time as well, the main focus is not on the specs but rather on the overall design.
OPPO RENO 4 & RENO 4 PRO – DESIGN & SPECIFICATIONS
Just like the Reno 3 Series, it is the ‘Pro’ model that gets a better design, thanks to the curved hole-punch display on the front with minimal bezels all around & a bold camera module design on the rear. The Oppo Reno 4 has a flat display, a dual hole-punch camera cutout and a relatively bigger bottom chin than the Reno 4 Pro. Both the phones, however, have a similar rear design.
The Reno 4 Pro also gets two beautiful Gradient Red & Blue color options featuring the ‘Reno Glow’ branding on the rear. Both these variants have a Frosted Glass back which, along with the gradient, looks stunning.
Since both the phones feature an OLED display, the fingerprint scanner is under the screen on both. The USB Type-C port along with the speaker grill & the SIM card tray is placed on the bottom & the power button on the right has a subtle blue accent. Both phones lack a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Coming to the specs now, the Oppo Reno 4 features a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with Full-HD+ resolution & around 90.7% screen-to-body ratio. The Reno 4 Pro, on the other hand, has a 6.5-inch 90Hz AMOLED with Full-HD+ resolution & a higher around 93.4% screen-to-body ratio.
There is a difference in the color gamut as well – 96% NTSC of Reno 4’s display compared to the 100% DCI-P3 of Reno 4 Pro’s panel. Finally, the display on Reno 4 has a peak brightness of 800 nits compared to the 1,100 nits peak brightness of Reno 4 Pro’s panel.
Both phones have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G 5G chipset & while the Reno 4 features 8GB LPDDR4X RAM with 128/256GB UFS 2.1 storage, the Reno 4 Pro gets up to 12GB LPDDR4X RAM & 256GB UFS 2.1 storage. The Reno 4 has a slightly bigger 4,020mAh battery compared to the 4,000mAh unit of Reno 4 Pro. Both phones come with 65W SuperVOOC Flash Charge support.
There is a big difference in the camera setup on the rear. The Oppo Reno 4 has a triple camera setup that includes a primary 48 Megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor without OIS, a secondary 8 Megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 2 Megapixel B&W camera.
On the other hand, the Reno 4 Pro has a triple camera setup that includes a primary 48 Megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor with OIS, a 12 Megapixel Sony IMX708 sensor with the ultrawide lens, and a 13 Megapixel telephoto camera.
While the Reno 4 Pro has a single 32 Megapixel camera on the front, the Reno 4 gets dual selfie cameras that include a primary 32 Megapixel camera paired with a 2 Megapixel depth sensor.
