A couple of days after the announcement of Oppo R17, the R17 Pro was launched today in China, and in every means, this is a great mid-range handset. The phone has a beautiful design, edge-to-edge display, a set of three cameras on the rear, in-screen fingerprint scanner, a powerful mid-range processor, the fastest Charging technology and more. There is no information on the global launch of the phone but we know that Oppo wants its smartphone business to expand worldwide and so, we can expect the R17 and R17 Pro launching in Global markets soon.
Talking about the design of R17 Pro, it looks gorgeous in the gradient color. The phone has, what the company calls, a 3D matte Glass with Matte finish that gives a soft touch when you hold it in hands. There is a small camera hump on the rear, but this camera setup includes three lenses, about which we will talk later in this article. On the front, we see the same waterdrop notch as the one on R17, as well as minimal bezels all around. Oppo claims that the phone has a screen-to-body ratio of 91.5% which is truly impressive.
The Oppo R17 Pro has a 6.4-inch AMOLED Full-HD+ display with a resolution of 2340×1080 & a pixel density of 402ppi. Just like the R17, the R17 Pro has Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection. Under the hood, the R17 Pro has a 2.2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 710 Processor with Adreno 616 GPU, 8GB RAM, and 128GB internal storage. There is no option to expand the storage, but 128GB ROM is more than enough for most users.
The camera setup is one of the highlights of this device. The Oppo R17 Pro has triple rear cameras that include a 12MP camera with a variable aperture (f/1.5 or f/2.4 | f/2.6), a 20MP second lens and a third 3D TOF lens. This type of 3D TOF camera is normally seen on the front for accurate Face Scan, but Oppo says that with this camera on the rear, it can be used to take 3D photos or to turn your TV as a gaming console. On the front, there is a 25MP camera with f/2.0 aperture. The camera features include Portrait Mode, Night Scene, Panorama, Pro Mode, etc.
The Oppo R17 Pro has a 3,700mAh battery under the hood that supports the fastest charging technology available right now for a smartphone, i.e., Super VOOC Charging. It can charge the phone up to 40% in just minutes! There are two separate batteries of 1,850mAh capacity each which are fast charged parallelly. This results in much faster charging than normal VOOC charging and also less heating.
The Oppo R17 Pro also features an in-screen fingerprint scanner. Android 8.1 Oreo runs out of the box with the Color OS 5.1 on top.
Finally, talking about the pricing and availability, the R17 Pro is priced at 4,299 Yuan or $625 and is available in a single Gradient color option. The phone will be available in China from mid-October, and there is no word from the company on its global launch.
