Motorola Edge X to launch globally as Edge 30 Ultra, specs leaked

It is said to be one of the first Snapdragon 898-powered phones

Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit is starting on the 30th of November and will end on the 2nd of December. Like every year, we are expecting Qualcomm to launch its next flagship chipset at this event, and if there is no change in the naming scheme, it will be the Snapdragon 898. Now, it is still not yet confirmed which brand will be the first to launch a phone with this SOC, but there are some sources that suggest either Motorola or Xiaomi to be the first.

Motorola has already teased the launch of its flagship named the Motorola Edge X in China & now, we got to know that outside China, this phone is coming with a different name. Along with that, we also got to know the major specifications of it. All these details were shared by TechnikNews, a German website.

Motorola Edge 30 Ultra (Motorola Edge X)

According to this website, the phone is launching outside China as the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra. So far, we have not seen any “Ultra” device under the Edge series from Motorola so this sounds like a big deal. Internally, this phone is codenamed “Rogue” and has the model number “XT-2201”. It will feature the new flagship SOC from Qualcomm that has the model number SM8450. This chip is codenamed “taro” and is expected to launch as Snapdragon 898. There is a 6.67-inch 144Hz OLED with a Full-HD+ resolution & in terms of memory, the phone gets 8GB or 12GB LPDDR5 RAM along with 128GB or 256GB UFS 3.1 storage.

In terms of the cameras, there is a main 50 Megapixel sensor on the back, and it is an OmniVision OV50A sensor. Then there is another 50 Megapixel sensor that is most likely used for ultrawide shots. It is Samsung’s JN1 sensor. Then there is a third 2MP sensor for depth data. The most surprising thing about the camera system is the megapixel count of the selfie shooter. The website says the phone has a 60 Megapixel sensor placed in a hole-punch cutout, and this sensor is capable of 4K video recording too.

The battery size is 5,000mAh, and the Motorola Edge X supports 68W fast charging. It is said that the battery can charge fully in just 35 minutes. There is no wireless charging support, even though the phone has a glass back. The headphone jack is not there & for the European market, the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra has a Google Assistant button too. Other features include IP52 rating, Stereo speakers, and Android 12.

Speaking of the launch, the website said that Motorola Edge X is launching in China in December and later in the global market in January (along with the other Edge 30 series phones). You will get the 68W adapter in the box & the phone is also getting two years of Android OS upgrades in the global market. Well, all these details point towards a pretty powerful phone from Motorola, so it will be interesting to see what the price is going to be. Stay tuned!
