Huawei Nova 6 5G, Nova 6 & Nova 6 SE officially launched

Huawei Nova 6 series is now official in China & it brings not one or two but a trio of devices under it. There is the most expensive Huawei Nova 6 5G, its cheaper 4G alternative, the Nova 6 & the mid-ranger Nova 6 SE. As the name shows, the Nova 6 5G is a 5G device hence comes with the Balong 5000 Modem for 5G support alongside Kirin 990 SOC.

Moreover, the phone scores 100 as the selfie score on DxOMark, which means it is now the smartphone with the best selfie camera as per DxOMark.

The Nova 6 5G has a design similar to the Huawei P30 Pro, at least on the rear. There is a vertically placed camera setup that includes triple cameras. On the front, there is a hole-punch display & the phone has dual selfie cameras, hence a pill-shaped cutout on the top left. The phone does have a headphone jack, so that’s great since it’s rare to have a headphone jack these days on flagship phones.

The Nova 6 5G weighs around 212 grams & is 8.98mm thick, whereas the Nova 6 weighs around 197 grams & is 8.56mm in terms of the thickness. Both phones have a side-facing fingerprint scanner.

The Huawei Nova 6 5G has a 6.57-inch Full-HD+ LTPS LCD panel (2400×1080 pixels) & there is Kirin 990 SOC powering the phone. The main difference between the Nova 6 5G & Nova 6 is that the 5G version comes with Balong 5000 5G modem, whereas the non-5G version doesn’t. Again, it is the Kirin 990 SOC powering both phones, so there is no Kirin 990 5G SOC for the 5G version. It is the Kirin 990 4G chipset paired with a 5G modem.

While the regular version comes with 8GB RAM & 128GB storage, the Nova 6 5G has 8GB RAM & 128/256GB storage. There is a 4,200mAh battery inside the Huawei Nova 6 5G & a 4,100mAh unit in case of the Nova 6. Both phones support 40W Huawei SuperCharge & run on Android 10 with EMUI 10.0.1 on top.

Coming to the cameras, the Huawei Nova 6 5G has a triple camera setup on the rear that includes a primary 40 Megapixel unit with f/1.8 aperture, an 8 Megapixel telephoto lens with 3X Optical Zoom & 5X Hybrid Zoom, and an 8 Megapixel ultra-wide-angle shooter. On the front, there are dual cameras that include a primary 32 Megapixel unit with f/2.2 aperture & an 8 Megapixel secondary ultra-wide-angle camera.

The Huawei Nova 6 5G comes in the above four colors, whereas the Nova 6 in just three (not the Red). Talking about the pricing, it starts at CNY 3,199 ($454) for the Nova 6 with 8GB RAM & 128GB ROM. The Nova 6 5G is priced at CNY 3,799 ($540) for the 8GB + 128GB variant whereas CNY 4,199 ($595) for the 8GB + 256GB variant.

Alright, let’s just agree that it is not the first time any smartphone maker has used “SE” in the device name. First, it was Apple with its iPhone SE, then Xiaomi with the Mi 8 SE and Mi 9 SE & now, Huawei has launched the Nova 6 SE. The Nova 6 SE is a mid-range phone with a premium build & design.

Talking about the design, there is a hole-punch display like the Nova 6 5G, but there is a single selfie camera, hence a smaller cutout for it. On the rear, there is a Quad camera setup placed in a square-ish module on the top left. If you remember the design of Huawei Mate 20 from the rear, the Nova 6 SE looks the same, but the camera layout is on the top left instead of the middle.

There is a 6.4-inch Full-HD+ LCD panel on the front & the SOC powering it is the 7nm Kirin 810 paired with Mali-G52 GPU & the NPU based on DaVinci Architecture. There is 8GB RAM & 128GB internal storage, with the option to expand the storage via Huawei NM Memory card up to 256GB.

There is a big 4,200mAH battery with support for 40W Huawei SuperCharge via the USB Type-C port. Just like the Nova 6 & Nova 6 5G, the Huawei Nova 6 SE has a headphone jack. Android 10 with EMUI 10.0.1 on top runs out of the box.

Talking about the cameras, the phone has a Quad camera setup on the back that includes a primary 48 Megapixel f/1.8 lens, an 8 Megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, a 2 Megapixel macro lens & a 2 Megapixel depth sensor. There is a 16 Megapixel selfie camera.

The Huawei Nova 6 SE comes in the above three color options. Talking about the pricing, it is priced at CNY 2,199 ($315) for the 8GB RAM & 128GB option.

For all the three phones under the Huawei Nova 6 lineup, the pre-orders are starting today & the sales on December 12th.
