Honor just launched two new smartphones in China named Honor Play 4 & Play 4 Pro. Both of these are 5G phones where the Play 4 is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 800 SOC whereas the Play 4 Pro has Kirin 990 chipset with an external 5G Modem. While Play 4 starts at ¥1,799 or $253, the Play 4 Pro starts at ¥2,899 or $408.

HONOR PLAY 4 – DESIGN & SPECIFICATIONS

Honor Play 4 Design

The Honor Play 4 comes with a punch-hole design on the front & a Quad camera setup on the back. The fingerprint scanner is placed on the right side, which doubles as the power button. The phone is pretty heavy at 213 grams & the thickness is 8.9mm.

It is a 6.81-inch LCD panel on the front with Full-HD+ resolution and 20:9 aspect ratio. There is a punch-hole camera cutout on the top left that houses the 16 Megapixel camera. Under the hood, there is MediaTek Dimensity 800 chipset which is 7nm chipset featuring the Mali G57 MC4 GPU & 5G modem. There is 6/8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB storage that is expandable up to 512GB.

Honor Play 4 Cameras

There are Quad cameras on the rear that include a primary 64 Megapixel camera paired with an 8 Megapixel ultrawide camera, a 2 Megapixel macro and a 2 Megapixel depth sensor. The phone features a 4,300mAh battery & 22.5W fast charging support.

Honor Play 4 Colors

The Honor Play 4 comes in two storage options & three colors – Blue, Black, and White. Here is the pricing for China –

  • 6GB + 128GB – ¥1,799 ($253)
  • 8GB + 128GB – ¥1,999 ($281)

It is up for pre-order & the first sale takes place on June 12th.

HONOR PLAY 4 PRO – DESIGN & SPECIFICATIONS

Honor Play 4 Pro Design

The Play 4 Pro has a different design than the Play 4 as it has a Dual Camera setup on the rear & a dual punch-hole camera cutout on the front. Just like the Play 4, the fingerprint scanner on the Play 4 Pro is there on the right side.

The cameras are pretty interesting because compared to the Play 4’s Quad camera setup, there are only two cameras on the rear of Honor Play 4 Pro.

Honor Play 4 Pro Display

There is a 6.57-inch Full-HD+ LCD panel on the front with a dual punch-hole camera cutout that houses a primary 32MP selfie camera paired with an 8 Megapixel ultrawide unit. Under the hood, there is Kirin 990 chipset with an external 5G modem.

Now, this Kirin 990 chipset is different from the Kirin 990 5G that we see on more expensive Honor & Huawei phones because it doesn’t have an integrated 5G modem. It is also less powerful than Kirin 990 5G when it comes to performance.

Honor Play 4 Pro Cameras

The dual-camera setup on the rear includes a primary 40 Megapixel camera with Sony IMX600 RYYB sensor & secondary 8 Megapixel telephoto lens featuring 3X Optical Zoom & Optical Image Stabilization. So while the camera count is lower, the cameras are definitely better than those on the Honor Play 4.

Finally, the phone has a 4,200mAh battery & 40W Fast Wired Charging support.

Honor Play 4 Pro comes in Black & Blue colors and two storage options. Here is the pricing for the Chinese market –

  • 8GB + 128GB – ¥2,899 ($408)
  • 8GB + 128GB (Special Edition) – ¥2,999 ($422)

It is up for pre-order & will be available to buy in China on June 9th. =
