Asus Zenfone 7 & Zenfone 7 Pro launched with Flip camera

The Zenfone 7 Series from Asus is now official in Taiwan & as expected, we got the vanilla Zenfone 7 along with the Zenfone 7 Pro. Asus kept the unique Flip Camera mechanism from the Zenfone 6 of last year & improved it even further this time. There are significant upgrades is almost all the areas, whether it is the display, performance, or the cameras.

ASUS ZENFONE 7 & ZENFONE 7 PRO – DESIGN & SPECIFICATIONS

Design-wise, there is no difference between the two devices. Both have a notch-less Full-Screen display on the front & a Flip Camera system on the back that has triple cameras this time. The fingerprint scanner is now on the right side & doubles as the power button. One omission is the 3.5mm headphone jack which was there on the Zenfone 6 of last year.

The phone not only looks premium but feels premium since there is 3D Curved Gorillas Glass 3 on the back & a series 6000 aluminium frame.

This time, Asus improved the Flip Camera mechanism by using a more powerful Motor & a new Angle Sensor which lets you have very precise control over the angle of the Flip camera. It even remembers your three favourite Flip Angles so you can quickly switch between those angles if you want to.

Last year’s Zenfone 6 was an excellent smartphone, but the only thing it lacked was an AMOLED panel. This time, Asus went for a Samsung’s AMOLED panel on both the Zenfone 7 & Zenfone 7 Pro & that’s not it! There is also 90Hz refresh rate & Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection. It is a 6.67-inch screen with Full-HD+ resolution. There is support for HDR10+ as well.

One of the biggest differences between the Asus Zenfone 7 & Zenfone 7 Pro is the chipset. While the vanilla Zenfone 7 has Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, the Zenfone 7 Pro gets the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+. Also, the Zenfone 7 comes with 6/8GB LPDDR5 RAM & 128GB UFS 3.1 storage whereas the Zenfone 7 Pro with 8GB LPDDR5 RAM & 256GB UFS 3.1 storage.

Both phones offer a triple card slot which means you can not only add two SIM cards but also a microSD card up to 2TB at the same time. This is something we don’t see in flagships these days. In fact, most of the flagships don’t even have expandable storage these days.

Talking about cameras, there is a triple camera setup on the rear that includes a primary 64 Megapixel Sony IMX686 sensor with 8K 30fps video recording, a secondary 12 Megapixel ultrawide camera with the Sony IMX363 sensor, and finally an 8 Megapixel Telephoto unit with 3X Optical Zoom. The ultrawide camera can also take macro shots.

Now, while the Asus Zenfone 7 Pro has Dual OIS, i.e., OIS for the primary as well as the telephoto camera, the Zenfone 7 has no OIS at all.

The battery size remains the same from last year, i.e., a 5,000mAh unit. There is support for 30W Fast Charging, Quick Charge 4.0 & PD Fast Charge. Now, since there is such a huge battery inside & glass + metal build, the Zenfone 7 duo is pretty heavy at 230 grams. The thickness is 9.6mm.

Finally, the ASUS ZenUI 7 runs out of the box, which is based on Android 10.

ASUS ZENFONE 7 & ZENFONE 7 PRO – PRICING & AVAILABILITY
