Xiaomi Redmi 7 hands-on video & specs leaked ahead of the launch

Xiaomi will soon launch the Redmi 7 under the ‘Redmi’ brand, and as the name shows, it is going to be the successor to the Redmi 6 of last year. The phone recently appeared on TENAA that revealed the design as well as some specifications of it. Today, however, the hands-on video of it showed up that revealed everything about this upcoming budget phone from Xiaomi. The video compares the Xiaomi Redmi 7 to the Redmi Note 7 since both look similar.

When the Redmi Note 7 launched in China, it was the first phone in the ‘Note’ series to feature a glass back. That isn’t the case with the Redmi 7 as it has a polycarbonate back panel. The design, however, is similar as it has the similar looking dual cameras and a rear-facing fingerprint scanner.

As the image above shows, the Xiaomi Redmi 7 and Redmi Note 7 are similar from the front as well since both have a U-shaped notch. But, the Redmi 7 has a bigger bottom chin, and that’s normal for a budget phone. Moreover, there is a micro USB port on the bottom, so it doesn’t get a USB Type-C port like the Redmi Note 7.

It is a 6.26-inch LCD HD+ panel with a resolution of 1520 x 720 pixels and a 19:9 aspect ratio. We doubt if the phone has a Gorilla Glass protection, but since the Redmi Note 7 has Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back, we expect the Redmi 7 to have some sort of protection for the display.

AIDA64 app shows that the phone has a Snapdragon processor mentioned as ‘msm8953’. This is the internal name of the Snapdragon 625, but as per the source, it is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 which is an upgrade over the 625. The app shows that the phone has 3GB RAM and 64GB ROM which is a pretty odd combination. As per the TENAA listing, the Xiaomi Redmi 7 will come in 2/3/4GB RAM options with 16/32/64GB ROM respectively.

The Redmi 7 has a 4,000mAh battery and charges via the micro USB port. Not much is known about the camera except for the fact that there is an 8MP selfie camera and one of the rear cameras is a 12MP unit.

Finally, talking about the pricing, the video reveals that the price will be around 900 Yuan or $130, but we are not sure if this is the starting price or the price of the variant in the video which, as per the source, has 3GB RAM and 64GB ROM.
