The Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 is official in the Chinese market, and this is the company’s foldable smartphone for 2024. Compared to the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3, the Fold 4 comes with some significant upgrades, both in the design and the specifications. The Mix Fold 3 had its slim form factor as one of the highlights, and the same is the story with the Fold 4. The Fold 4 is slimmer and lighter than its predecessor.
When folded, the Mix Fold 4 is just 9.47mm thick, compared to 10.89mm last year. When unfolded, the thickness is 4.59mm, versus 5.26mm last year. Xiaomi was able to reduce the weight from 255g to 226g, making it lighter than some of the regular smartphones on the market. Unlike the Mix Fold 3, which had sharp corners and a boxy design, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 has more rounded edges and a rounded frame.
The Mix Fold 4 is IPX8-certified, making it the first foldable from the brand with a water-resistant rating. There are stereo speakers.
One of the reasons for a lighter body is the T800H carbon fiber material, which is used in the various parts of the phone, especially the hinge. Xiaomi says the tensile strength of T800H carbon is as high as 5500MPa, and compared to the Mix Fold 3, the impact resistance of the middle plate has been improved by 300%.
Speaking of the displays, the cover display has a quad-curved 6.56-inch LTPO OLED panel with a 3000 nits peak brightness, 12-bit color depth, 2160Hz PWM dimming, Dolby Vision, and HDR10. The foldable display has a 7.98-inch LTPO OLED panel with a 3000 nits peak brightness, 10-bit color depth, 2160Hz PWM dimming, Dolby Vision, and HDR10.
The brand says it removed the polarizer from the display, which increased the screen transmittance by 68% and reduced power consumption.
On the back, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 has four cameras. The primary camera has a 1/1.55″ 50MP Light Fusion 800 sensor with an f/1.7 lens and OIS. The ultrawide camera has a 12MP sensor with an f/2.2 lens. The 2x telephoto camera has a 50MP sensor with an f/2.0 aperture lens. Finally, the fourth camera has a 5x periscope lens and uses a 10MP sensor with OIS and an f/2.9 lens.
Performance-wise, the phone has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset under the hood with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. For better thermals, the phone has a vapor chamber. There is a 5,100mAh battery with 67W wired and 50W wireless charging support.
Xiaomi has used four “T1” signal enhancement chipsets in this device for better connectivity. Moreover, there are four chipsets for battery management. The phone also supports two-way satellite communication in China.
Finally, the phone runs on Android 14-based HyperOS out of the box.
