The Galaxy Unpacked event just wrapped up, and Samsung launched many cool devices at the event. In our previous post, we talked about the Galaxy Z Flip 4, which is a $999 foldable flip phone. Along with that device, Samsung also launched the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The Z Fold is the series that started it all for Samsung in terms of foldable phones. This year, Samsung tweaked the design a little, improved the performance, and added more features to improve productivity. And all of that comes at the same price as the last year’s Z Fold 3, i.e., $1,799.
Speaking of the design changes, the display has slimmer bezels, or in other words, it is slightly wider this time. Samsung used the Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection on the outside, just like the Z Flip 4. The frame is made of Armour Aluminum, and the phone is water resistant.
Under the hood, there is Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SOC which is quite a significant upgrade over Snapdragon 888 that powered the Galaxy Z Flip 4. But unlike the Z Flip 4, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 does not get any upgrade in battery size. It is the same 4,400mAh cell as the Z Fold 3. The charging speed is also the same at 25W, but Samsung was able to improve the charging technology so the battery will get charged faster than the Z Fold 3, even with the same charging speed. And finally, there is 15W wireless charging support.
Another big upgrade comes in the cameras. There are three cameras on the back where the primary camera has a 50MP sensor with OIS, the secondary camera has a 12MP sensor + an ultrawide lens, and finally, the third camera has a 10MP sensor + 3X optical zoom lens. For selfies, there is a 10MP sensor on the outer display, whereas a 4MP sensor is present under the foldable screen.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 runs on Android 12L, a special version of Android 12 made for large-screen experiences that also includes foldables. For productivity, there is a plethora of new features, such as a taskbar similar to what you see on a PC, new swipe gestures for multitasking, drag and drop support for Google Chrome & Gmail, etc. And, ofcourse, there is S-pen support too.
The phone comes in three colors named Phantom Black, Beige, and Gray-green. The price starts at $1,799 in the US & €1,799 in the European market.
