Redmi K30 5G launched in China, price starts at 1999 Yuan

Redmi K30 5G launched in China today at an event where Redmi also unveiled some more interesting stuff other than smartphones. As the name suggests, it is not only the upgrade to Redmi K20 but also a 5G phone. In fact, it is the first 5G phone under the Redmi brand & currently the cheapest 5G phone that you can get, at least in China.

Obviously, Redmi has plans to launch it in other markets outside China, so there is a 4G version of the phone as well for markets that don’t have 5G at the moment.

REDMI K30 5G – DESIGN & SPECIFICATIONS

Compared to the Redmi K20 that came with a Full-Screen design & a pop-up selfie camera, the K30 has a punch-hole display. So, there is a pill-shaped cutout for the dual selfie cameras on the top left.

You may prefer a Full-Screen design with no notch or holes, but according to Redmi’s General Manager, pop-up mechanism increased the thickness of the phone & since the K30 is a 5G phone, there needs to be ample space in the device for all the antennas. Also, the company didn’t want to make the phone too thick.

There is a Quad camera setup on the rear placed vertically with a circle around it. The phone does have a headphone jack alongside the USB Type-C port.

Talking about the specifications now, the Redmi K30 5G has a 6.67-inch Full-HD+ (2400 x 1080) LCD panel with a 120Hz refresh rate & Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. As mentioned in the beginning, there are two versions of the phone, i.e., 4G & 5G. While the K30 5G is the first device to feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G SOC, the K30 4G comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G.

The Snapdragon 765G is a 7nm SOC with Kryo 475 CPU & Adreno 620 GPU. This chipset comes with an integrated 5G modem for 5G support. The Snapdragon 730G, on the other hand, is an 8nm SOC with Adreno 618 GPU.

Both the Redmi K30 4G as well as K30 5G come with 6/8GB LPDDR4X RAM & 64/128/256GB UFS 2.1 storage.

Coming to the cameras, there is a Quad camera setup on the rear that includes a primary 64 Megapixel Sony IMX686 sensor with 0.8μm pixel size (supports 4-in-1 1.6-micron pixels) & f/1.89 aperture, a secondary 8 Megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens with 120-degree FOV & f/2.2 aperture, a 5MP Super Macro Lens (2MP Macro lens in the 4G version) & a fourth 2MP depth sensor.

The rear camera can shoot 4K 30fps videos & 1080p 60fps videos. There is also support for 960fps super slow-motion videos at 720p.

On the front, there are dual selfie cameras. There is a primary 20 Megapixel camera & a secondary 2MP depth sensor.

Both Redmi K30 5G, as well as K30 4G, have a 4,500mAh battery, but while the K30 5G supports 30W Fast Charging, the 4G version supports up to 27W Fast Charging. MIUI 11 runs out of the box, which is Xiaomi’s skin based on Android 10.
