The Oppo Reno Ace of last year was a pretty impressive flagship from the brand, and one of the main highlights of it was the 65W SuperVOOC flash charging. Even today, there is no other smartphone that can beat this charging speed. Oppo launched the successor today, but there is a slight change in the naming style. Oppo has separated the ‘Reno’ series from the ‘Ace’ series, so the latest offering from the brand is named Oppo Ace 2.
It not only retains the crazy fast 65W SuperVOOC flash charge but also features 40W AirVOOC Wireless Charging. This makes it the company’s first smartphone with Wireless Charging support.
OPPO ACE 2 – DESIGN & SPECIFICATIONS
The Ace 2 features a completely different design this time as there is now a circular camera design on the rear with Quad cameras in it. On the front, there is now a punch-hole design instead of a notch like on the last year’s Reno Ace. The power button on the right side has a slight neon tint to it that gives it a nice touch.
There is a Quad camera setup on the rear that includes a primary 48 Megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor paired with an 8 Megapixel ultrawide camera, and two 2MP ‘portrait cameras.’ On the front, there is a 16 Megapixel camera. So, when it comes to the cameras, it seems more like a downgrade than an upgrade. There is the same IMX586 sensor and no telephoto camera, something that was present on the Reno Ace.
Oppo Ace 2 features a 6.55-inch Full-HD+ Super AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Under the hood, there is Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SOC paired with 8/12GB RAM and 128/256GB UFS 3.0 storage. It is worth mentioning that 8GB RAM is LPDDR4X, whereas 12GB RAM is LPDDR5. There are dual 2,000mAh cells inside that are equivalent to a 4,000mAh battery.
As mentioned in the beginning, there is 65W SuperVOOC flash charge support, and also 40W AirVOOC Wireless Flash Charge support. The AirVOOC charger will be sold separately, and Oppo claims that it can charge the 4,000mAh battery fully in just 56 minutes. The AirVOOC charger also has a fan to control the temperature while charging. The charging pad is priced at 249 Yuan or $35.
Finally, Android 10 runs out of the box with ColorOS 7.1 running on top. Since there is Snapdragon 865 SOC, the phone also supports 5G. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack.
