In our previous article, we covered the Xiaomi Mi Mix 4’s launch, and that’s the newest premium flagship from the brand, which comes with an under-display selfie camera. Along with that phone, Xiaomi also launched two new flagship tablets. Yes, Xiaomi is still in the tablet game, and as we know already, soon, more brands are going to jump into this product category. So, the two new tablets are the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 & the Mi Pad 5 Pro.

Mi PAD 5

Xiaomi Mi Pad 5

Both of these are flagship tablets, but as the name suggests, the “Pro” variant packs a little extra punch. Starting with the Mi Pad 5 first, it has a design that seems inspired by the iPad, as you can instantly notice the same by looking at the camera module design on the back. And in case you’re wondering, there is only one camera on the back. The other circle that you see is there just for the design, and all it has is the “13MP” text. It is not a surprise that there is a premium metal build since this is a high-end tablet.

The Mi Pad 5 has POGO pins on the side, using which you can connect various accessories such as a keyboard. There is also a stylus that you can use, and it can be charged by simply attaching it to the side of the Mi Pad 5. The USB Type-C port is present on the bottom, and there are four speakers with Dolby Atmos.

The panel on the front is an 11-inch 10-bit LCD with a WQHD+ resolution (2560 x 1600 pixels) & up to 120Hz refresh rate. The touch-sampling rate is up to 240Hz. Some other features of this screen include HDR10, True Tone, and Dolby Vision. There is an 8 Megapixel selfie camera that is placed on the top bezel instead of on the side.

Under the hood, there is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 860 SOC, and it is worth mentioning that Mi Pad 5 is a WiFi-only tablet. This chipset is paired with 6GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The battery size is 8720mAh & there is support for 33W fast charging. The Mi Pad 5 also supports Power Delivery Quick Charging.

There is only one camera on the back, and it is a 13 Megapixel sensor that supports 4K video recording at up to 30fps.

Finally, MIUI 12.5 runs out of the box, which is based on Android 11.

Mi PAD 5 PRO

Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro

Coming to the Mi Pad 5 Pro now, it has the same sized display as on the Mi Pad 5. The resolution and the refresh rate also remain the same, so in short, the Pro version doesn’t get an upgraded display. The only design change is on the back, where there is now a dual-camera setup.

Apart from the extra camera on the back, another major change is that the Mi Pad 5 Pro has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 over the Snapdragon 860 of Mi Pad 5. There is 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM instead of LPDDR4X. The storage type is the same, i.e., UFS 3.1.

Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro

There are two versions of the Mi Pad 5 Pro – WiFi-only and 5G. The dual-camera setup on the back includes a primary 1/2.5” 50-megapixel sensor paired with a 5 camera in case of the Mi Pad 5 Pro with 5G support and a 13MP + 5MP camera setup in case of the WiFi-only Mi Pad 5 Pro. The video recording is still limited to 4K 30fps even though the camera and the chipset are upgraded in the case of the Pro version.

Mi Pad 5 Pro has a smaller 8600mAh battery than the Mi Pad 5 but upgrades the charging speed to 67W.
