Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is now official, and this is the most expensive yet the most feature-packed flagship (non-foldable) from the brand for 2022. It is the successor to the Galaxy S21 Ultra, an excellent flagship. The S22 Ultra launched alongside the Galaxy S22 & S22+, which we talked about in our previous article, so you can check that here. This year, Samsung went all out and added all the features of the Galaxy Note series phones into the S22 Ultra. So, you can say that this is just a new Galaxy Note phone from the brand but with a different name.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

Since we are talking about the Galaxy Note, let us talk about the S-Pen first. The Galaxy S21 Ultra of last year had the S-Pen support, but it did not come with a built-in S-Pen. Also, there was no slot to keep the S-Pen. But this time, the Galaxy S22 Ultra comes with a built-in S-Pen that you can keep in the S-Pen slot on the bottom.

Moreover, this year, Samsung also used the same design language in the S22 Ultra that the Note series had. The S22 Ultra no longer has a curvy look like the S22 or S22+. Instead, it has a boxy design like a proper Galaxy Note, so the left and right sides are curved, whereas the top and bottom are flat.

The camera setup design is also different this time because this time, every camera is laid out individually, and there is no housing for the cameras. The phone is built like a tank with Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the front, as well as on the back and an aluminum frame.

The S-Pen gets some significant upgrades this time. Compared to the Galaxy Note 20’s S-Pen that had a 9ms latency, the Galaxy S22 Ultra comes with an S-Pen having just 2.8ms latency. That’s an almost 70% lower latency! This makes it the most responsive S-Pen that Samsung has ever made. The handwriting to text feature now supports almost 88 languages.

Under the hood, the Galaxy S22 Ultra has the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 / Exynos 2200 SOC as the other two phones under this lineup. This time, the base variant has 8GB RAM and 128GB storage which is surprising since the Galaxy S21 Ultra had a base variant with 12GB RAM. In terms of storage options, you can get up to 1TB of internal storage. There is a big 5,000mAh battery, and the phone supports up to 45W wired charging and 15W wireless charging.

Regarding the display, Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has a large 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a Quad-HD+ resolution and a variable refresh rate between 1Hz and 120Hz. The peak brightness of this panel is 1,750 nits, and there is Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection. Like the S22 & S22+, the S22 Ultra has Vision Booster tech for the display that improves the sharpness and color contrast based on the lighting around you. Under the display, there is an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner.

The camera setup on the back includes four cameras where the primary shooter has a 108MP sensor with an f/1.8 aperture lens. There is a 12MP sensor for the ultrawide camera (120-degree) and two 10MP zoom cameras. One offers 3X Optical Zoom, whereas the other offers 10X Optical Zoom. For selfies, the phone has a 40MP camera. So, the camera hardware is the same as last year’s S21 Ultra, and the only change is in the software this year. Some software features include Auto Framing, improved Portrait Mode, 16-bit RAW, etc.
