Huawei Mate Xs with Kirin 990 5G to launch in March 2020

Today in China, Huawei launched its foldable phone Mate X at a price of 16999 Yuan or 2,400 USD & at the launch event, Huawei also announced its plans for foldable phones in 2020. Huawei announced that the company would launch the Mate Xs in March 2020. The Huawei Mate Xs is going to be an upgrade over the Mate X & will feature the Kirin 990 5G SOC.

It seems like Huawei is following Apple’s footsteps in the naming style. Apple, too, launched iPhone X first & then upgraded it by launching iPhone XS the next year. The same is going to be the case with the Mate Xs. While it won’t be a massive upgrade over the Mate X, it would have a much better SOC with an embedded 5G Modem.

Kirin 990 5G is the most powerful SOC that Huawei currently makes. It is better than the Kirin 990 4G, as well. It is based on the 7nm+ EUV manufacturing process & has a more powerful NPU with 2 Big-Core + 1 Tiny-Core. There is an octa-core CPU that includes 2X Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.86GHz, 2X Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.36GHz & 4X Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.95GHz.

While the Mali-G76 GPU is the same as Kirin 980, there are now six more cores, resulting in a total of 16 cores.

It looks like in 2020, we are going to see more foldable phones, not just from the top smartphone makers in the world.
