Xiaomi quietly launched the Mi A3 today in Spain & yes, all the leaks were correct. The “Pro” version was also rumored, but that didn’t launch today. So, it looks like there is only one Android One phone from Xiaomi for 2019. It is an upgrade to Mi A2 & there are some good things about the Xiaomi Mi A3 like a big battery, triple cameras, headphone jack, expandable storage and more.
XIAOMI MI A3 – DESIGN & SPECIFICATIONS
The design of Mi A3 is the same as that of Xiaomi CC9e as it is merely the CC9e with Android One branding. So, instead of MIUI, it runs on stock Android out of the box. There is a glass back with Corning Gorilla Glass 5, a vertical triple camera setup, a display with waterdrop notch, an in-screen fingerprint scanner, a headphone jack on top, USB Type-C port on the bottom & a hybrid SIM card slot.
The display is a 6.088-inch HD+ AMOLED panel with 19.5:9 aspect ratio. It’s AMOLED, so that’s a good thing, but it’s just 720p. FYI, the Mi A2 of last year had an FHD+ display. The display has Gorilla Glass 5 protection as well. Under the hood, there is Snapdragon 665 that isn’t a huge upgrade to the Snapdragon 600. 665 has the same Kryo 260 CPU & has a lower clock speed of 2.0GHz compared to 2.2GHz in case of Snapdragon 660.
The GPU, however, is better since the Snapdragon 665 has Adreno 610 while the Snapdragon 660 has Adreno 512. The Mi A3 comes with 4GB RAM and 64/128GB storage. The storage can be expanded up to 256GB.
There is a triple camera setup on the back that includes a primary 48MP f/1.79 camera with Sony sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera with 118-degree FOV, and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front, there is a 32MP camera with f/2.0 aperture. The rear camera can shoot 4K 30fps videos, so it is most likely the IMX 582 as on Redmi K20.
The battery underneath is a 4,030mAh unit that supports 18W Fast Charging, but the phone comes with 10W Charger in the box. Stock Android 9 Pie runs out of the box with a couple of Xiaomi apps like the camera.
