Xiaomi Mi 9 SE launched with Snapdragon 712 & triple cameras

Last year in May, the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE was launched which was a premium midrange phone featuring the Snapdragon 710 processor, glass and metal build and more. Today, along with the Xiaomi Mi 9, the Mi 9 SE was also launched which, as the name shows, is the successor to the Mi 8 SE. It is the first phone to launch with Snapdragon 712 processor and has a triple camera setup on the rear. The Xiaomi Mi 9 SE is priced at 1,999 Yuan or around $300, so that’s again impressive pricing.

The phone has a design similar to the Xiaomi Mi 9 as it also has an edge-to-edge display with a waterdrop notch, a glass back, a triple camera setup on the rear and no headphone jack. There is a 2.5D glass on the back.

It would be better to call it the Xiaomi Mi 9 ‘Smaller Edition’ as it is a trimmed down version of the Mi 9. The phone is merely 7.45mm thick and weighs 155g. It has a smaller 5.97-inch display compared to the Mi 9’s6.39-inch panel.

But, it is the same AMOLED panel as the Xiaomi Mi 9, so that’s again a good thing since we all know that AMOLED is much better than the normal LCD panels. The screen-to-body ratio is around 90.47%, and other display specs include >60000:1 contrast ratio, 600 nit brightness, etc.

As you already know by the title, the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE is the first phone with the Snapdragon 712 processor. Now, it is not a huge upgrade from the Snapdragon 710 except for a higher 2.3GHz clock speed and a couple of extra enhancements. Still, the AnTuTu score of 187K shows that it beats the Snapdragon 710 and 670 by a fairly big margin.

There are two storage options – 6GB + 64GB and 6GB + 128GB. Just like the Xiaomi Mi 9, the Mi 9 SE also has the Game Turbo feature for better performance while gaming.

The Mi 9 SE has triple rear cameras like the Mi 9, but the camera specs aren’t the same. There is the same 48MP primary Sony IMX 586 sensor with f/1.75 aperture, but the other two cameras are different. There is a secondary 8MP telephoto camera for portrait shots and a third 13MP wide-angle camera with f/2.4 aperture & 123-degree FOV.

On the front, the phone has a 20MP camera, just like the Xiaomi Mi 9.

The Xiaomi Mi 9 SE has a small 3,070mAh battery that supports 18W Fast Charging via the USB Type-C port. There is no wireless charging support.

Finally, talking about the pricing, the 6GB + 64GB variant is priced at 1,999 Yuan or $297 whereas the 6GB + 128GB variant at 2299 Yuan or $342.
