Xiaomi 15 Ultra – Here’s our first look at the camera module

Quite an interesting camera arragement!

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra was an impressive camera-centric flagship phone launched in February in China. The phone featured a massive camera module on the back featuring four cameras. The primary camera had a 1-inch Sony LYT-900 sensor with a variable aperture lens, the ultrawide/macro camera had a 50MP Sony IMX858 sensor, the 3.2x telephoto camera had a 50MP Sony IMX858 sensor with an f/1.8 lens, and the 5x periscope telephoto camera had a 50MP Sony IMX858 sensor with an f/2.5 aperture.

Apart from the cameras, the phone featured the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SOC, a 5,300mAh battery, 90W wired charging, 80W wireless charging, a micro quad-curved OLED display, and more.

The brand is expected to launch the Xiaomi 15 Ultra in a few months, and today, the renders of the phone were shared by SmartPrix, revealing the camera module design.

As we can see, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra sticks with a circular camera module but the arrangement of the camera lenses is different this time. The top half of the camera module is occupied by the periscope telephoto camera and the LEICA branding. The bottom half has the rest of the three cameras placed in one row. Unlike the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, this camera arrangement does not look symmetrical.

As for the specifications, we know that the periscope telephoto camera is getting a big upgrade. It is using a 1/1.4″ 200MP Samsung HP9 sensor with a 4.3x optical zoom and an f/2.6 lens. For comparison, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra had a periscope telephoto camera with a 5x optical zoom. But while the optical zoom has reduced, the megapixel count has increased, so there shouldn’t be any downgrade in the 5x shots from the Xiaomi 15 Ultra when compared to the 14 Ultra.

The primary camera uses a 50MP Sony sensor, likely the same 1-inch Sony LYT-900.

The battery size is increased to 6,000mAh and the phone is powered by the all-new Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. The charging speeds are expected to remain the same – 90W wired + 80W wireless.

Well, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is looking like a solid contender for the best camera phone of 2025. But, the competition is fierce with the likes of Vivo X200 Pro/Ultra, Galaxy S25 Ultra, and more.
