The much-hyped Xiaomi 12S series is now official in the Chinese market, and as we already knew, there are three phones under this series, the vanilla 12S, the 12S Pro & the 12S Ultra. The 12S Ultra deserves its own separate article, so in this article, we will be talking in detail about the Xiaomi 12S & 12S Pro. Both of these are powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SOC, which is the latest flagship chip by Qualcomm. Also, these two phones are not a lot different from one another, with the biggest difference being the size.

Starting with the vanilla model, the Xiaomi 12S is a compact flagship, just like the Xiaomi 12. It has the same 6.28-inch AMOLED panel with a Full-HD+ resolution & 1100 nits peak brightness. The refresh rate of the panel is 120Hz, and the touch sampling rate is 240Hz. The display supports Dolby Vision, as well as HDR10+, and has 12-bit color depth.

The SOC powering this phone is the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 that is paired with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. There is a 4,500mAh battery with 67W fast wired charging & 50W fast wireless charging.

Speaking of the cameras, Xiaomi 12S has three on the rear. There is a primary camera with a 50MP Sony IMX707 sensor which is an upgrade over the Sony IMX766 sensor of Xiaomi 12. It is a large 1/1.28″ sensor with OIS and an f/1.9 lens. The secondary camera is for ultrawide photos and has a 13MP sensor. Finally, there is a 5MP telemacro camera with AutoFocus. There is support for 8K video recording via the primary camera at 24fps. The selfie camera has a 32MP sensor.

So, in terms of the camera hardware, only the primary sensor is upgraded, and the rest is the same as Xiaomi 12. And thanks to the LEICA partnership, there is LEICA’s color science and also some built-in filters to mimic various LEICA cameras.

XIAOMI 12S PRO

The Xiaomi 12S Pro is almost the same phone as the 12S, but the major upgrade comes in the display. Not only it is a bigger panel at 6.73-inch, but it also has a higher resolution (3200 x 1440). This is an E5 AMOLED panel with up to 1500 nits peak brightness and LTPO tech. There is support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+. While this is an upgrade over the Xiaomi 12S, the panel remains the same as the one on Xiaomi 12 Pro.

In terms of cameras, it is the same as Xiaomi 12 Pro. So, there is a 50MP Sony IMX707 sensor with OIS for the primary camera, a 50MP JN1 sensor with a 2X Optical Zoom lens, and a 50MP JN1 sensor with an ultrawide lens. There is a 32MP selfie shooter.

The phone has a 4,600mAH battery and supports 120W fast wired charging along with 50W wireless charging. Also, just like the Xiaomi 12S, there is Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SOC under the hood.
