The Vivo V40 was officially launched in June last year with a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset and all 50MP sensors. Today, the brand launched the Vivo V50 in the Indian market, and while the V40 was launched at a starting price of ₹39,999, the V50 starts at ₹34,999. But, even though the price is lower, there is not much change in the specifications.

Vivo V50

Design-wise, the Vivo V50 looks identical to its predecessor. It has a similar camera module design, but this year, there is a larger ring flash, aka, the Aura Light. Vivo says the light-emitting area has expanded by 100%, and the light is now 143x softer. The phone has a “Diamond Shield” Glass, made in collaboration with Schott, with over 50% improved drop resistance than the previous generation. The phone has a stereo speaker setup but lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack. Finally, it is IP68 & IP69-certified.

Under the hood, the Vivo V50 has the same Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset with UFS 2.2 storage and LPDDR4X RAM. The phone has a dual camera setup on the rear, featuring a 1/1.55″ 50MP sensor for the primary camera with OIS, and a 1/2.76″ 50MP sensor for the ultrawide camera. For selfies, the phone has a 1/2.76″ 50MP sensor with auto-focus. The phone comes with ZEISS branding, so it has some ZEISS-specific camera features. The phone can shoot 4K videos on all three cameras.

Vivo V50

The battery was one of the highlights of the Vivo V40, as the phone featured a large 5,500mAh battery in a 7.6mm body. The Vivo V50 has an even larger battery at 6,000mAh, and the thickness is still the same at around 7.6mm. The weight is 199g, slightly more than last year. The charging speed remains the same at 80W.

The display is a 6.77-inch 120Hz AMOLED with a 4,500 nits peak brightness, 10-bit color depth, HDR10+ support, and an optical under-display fingerprint scanner. Finally, the phone runs on Android 15-based FuntouchOS 15, and Vivo has promised three major OS updates and four years of security updates.
