In December last year, Vivo launched two mid-range phones in China under the ‘S’ series named S12 & S12 Pro. The main USP of those phones was the design and dual selfie cameras, where the primary selfie camera had a 50MP sensor. Today, both of those phones launched in India but under the ‘V’ series. So, in the Indian market, these phones are named Vivo V23 & V23 Pro. They are not much different than their Chinese counterparts except for some changes here and there.
VIVO V23
Vivo V23 has a premium design that includes flat sides, and the company says it used ‘aviation aluminum’ for the frame that not only looks beautiful but also makes the phone comfortable to hold. There is a Fluorite AG Glass design on the back, showing different colors when the light hits it at different angles.
Speaking of colors, one of the unique things about this back is that if you have the Sunshine Gold color option and expose its back panel to direct sunlight for 5-6 minutes, then the whole back panel changes its color (except for that camera module).
There is no 3.5mm headphone jack on this phone, so all that you get is a Type-C port on the bottom.
Speaking of the front, there is a notch on top. Yes, a notch. And it is not a tiny waterdrop notch but rather an iPhone-like notch. Vivo had to go for this old notch design for its V23 series because of the dual selfie camera setup. There is a primary 50MP sensor in this notch that is paired with an 8MP wide-angle camera. And that’s not it. There is also a dual-tone spotlight on the front.
The display on the front is a 6.44-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED with a 90Hz refresh rate and an under-display fingerprint scanner.
Under the hood, Vivo V23 has the MediaTek Dimensity 920 5G SOC, and that’s one change compared to the Vivo S12 for China because, in China, the phone has Dimensity 1100 SOC. There is 8GB or 12GB RAM paired with 128GB or 256GB storage.
In terms of the rear cameras, Vivo V23 has a primary 64MP shooter on the back that is paired with an 8MP ultrawide and a 2MP macro camera. There is a 4,200mAh battery, and the phone supports 44W fast charging. FunTouchOS 12 runs out of the box, which is based on Android 12.
VIVO V23 PRO
The Vivo V23 Pro has some notable design upgrades over the vanilla model, with the most significant upgrade on the front. There is a curved display instead of a flat one. Also, the sides are now curved too and not flat. The Pro model has the same Fluorite AG Glass back, so it has the same color-changing feature. Vivo says V23 Pro is India’s slimmest phone with a curved display. The phone is just 7.36mm slim!
As for similarities, the V23 Pro has the same dual-camera setup for selfies where the primary shooter has a 50MP sensor, and there is a second 8MP wide-angle camera. The charging speed is also the same at 44W, and there isn’t a massive difference in the battery size. The V23 Pro has a slightly bigger 4,300mAh battery.
Under the hood, Vivo V23 Pro has the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 5G SOC, and there is either 8GB or 12GB RAM paired with 128GB or 256GB storage. The display on the front is slightly bigger at 6.56-inch, but it is the same FHD+ AMOLED with a 90Hz refresh rate.
The triple camera setup includes a primary 108MP sensor, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro camera. So, only the primary sensor is upgraded over the vanilla model.
