In May, the Vivo S19 & S19 Pro were launched in China with big batteries and impressive cameras. Today, the brand launched the Vivo S20 & S20 Pro in the Chinese market with some notable upgrades. The two phones are expected to launch outside China under the Vivo V50 series with slight changes in the specifications.
VIVO S20
Starting with the vanilla model, the design is almost identical to the Vivo S19. The biggest design change is on the rear, as the ring LED flash is now bigger than the Vivo S19. The phone comes in three colors, one of which has a unique pattern on the back. The back is most likely glass, but the frame seems to be made of plastic as it lacks antenna lines. There is a flat display on the front and a flat frame. The phone is quite slim at 7.19mm and weighs 186g. This makes it slimmer and lighter than its predecessor.
Despite being lighter than the Vivo S19, the battery is bigger. The Vivo S20 has a massive 6,500mAh battery versus a 6,000mAh battery inside the Vivo S19. The phone supports 90W wired charging versus 80W in its predecessor.
Surprisingly, there is no upgrade in the performance. The Vivo S20 has the same Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset as the Vivo S19, and there is LPDDR4X RAM with UFS 2.2 storage.
The display is a 6.67-inch BOE Q10 OLED with a 5,000 nits local peak brightness and 1300 nits global peak brightness. This is a 1.5K panel with a 10-bit color depth and a 120Hz refresh rate. The panel supports 3840Hz PWM dimming. There is an optical fingerprint scanner under the display.
Coming to cameras, the Vivo S20 has a dual camera setup on the rear. The primary camera uses a 1/1.55-inch 50MP sensor with OIS, and the ultrawide camera uses an 8MP sensor. There is a 50MP sensor for selfies. The Aura Light has 1800-5000K intelligent color temperature adjustment.
Finally, the phone runs on OriginOS 5 based on Android 15.
Vivo S20 comes in two colors, and here is the pricing for China –
- 8GB + 256GB – ¥2299 (~$320)
- 12GB + 256GB – ¥2599 (~$360)
- 12GB + 512GB – ¥2799 (~$385)
- 16GB + 512GB – ¥2999 (~$410)
VIVO S20 PRO
The Vivo S20 Pro is almost identical, but the phone has three cameras on the rear versus two on the vanilla model. The display on the front has curved glass on top on all four sides, and the frame is also rounded, not flat. There is no change in the display specifications. It is the same 6.67-inch 120Hz BOE Q10 OLED panel as the vanilla model.
The performance is handled by the MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ chipset, an upgrade over the Dimensity 9200+ inside the Vivo S19 Pro. The phone has LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. The 5,500mAh battery is the same, and so is the 80W wired charging.
Speaking of cameras, there are three on the back. The primary camera has a 1/1.56-inch 50MP Sony IMX921 sensor with CIPA 4.5-level image stabilization. The ultrawide camera has a 50MP Samsung JN1 sensor. The third camera has a periscope telephoto lens with a 50MP Sony IMX882 sensor, CIPA 4.5-level image stabilization, and 3x optical zoom. The telephoto camera can go as close as 15cm to the subject, so it can be used for macro shots.
For comparison, the Vivo S19 Pro had an 8MP sensor for the ultrawide camera, and there was a 2x telephoto camera. The selfie shooter has a 50MP sensor too. So, all four cameras on this phone have a 50MP sensor.
Finally, it runs on OriginOS 5 based on Android 15.
