Last year, along with the Xiaomi Mi 8, the company also launched the transparent version of the phone named Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition. This version had a transparent back panel that gave a glimpse of the internals (although it was just a sticker under the back panel). This year, Xaomi will do the same thing. Along with the normal Mi 9, we are also getting a transparent Xiaomi Mi 9, the official press images of which were shared by the Co-Founder Lei Jun on Weibo.

Some previous leak suggested a Quad camera setup for the transparent version, but it looks like those leaks were fake (or maybe there is another phone in the Mi 9 family with four cameras). The transparent Xiaomi Mi 9 has triple cameras like the Mi 9.

The post by Lei Jun on Weibo revealed that unlike the 48MP 6P lens on the normal Xiaomi Mi 9, the transparent version has a 48MP 7P Lens with an aperture of f/1.47, so that’s interesting. Also, the phone is launching with 12GB RAM which makes it one of the few phones in the market with this much RAM. FYI, the Samsung Galaxy S10+ is also launching with up to 12GB RAM and 1TB ROM.

As you can see, the transparent glass panel reveals that there is a Wireless Charging coil as well which reconfirms the previous leak which revealed 20W Fast Wireless charging support. On closer inspection, we can see text like ‘Mi Fans,’ ‘MIUI,’ ‘Super MI,’ ‘Battle Angel’ etc. Now, we are expecting that the transparent Xiaomi Mi 9 has a sticker under the rear glass panel like last year.

Finally, the gradient glass on the rear is merely 0.4mm thick which is equivalent to the thickness of 4 sheets of A4 paper.
The price is not yet officially revealed but since it has a whopping 12GB RAM, expect the price to remain much higher than that of the regular Xiaomi Mi 9.
