Those who are following Sony for a long time would know that Sony used to launch those ‘Compact’ series phones under the Xperia lineup which, to no surprise, were compact in size. Those phones featured high-end specs but a relatively smaller form factor compared to the non-Compact series devices, thanks to the smaller screen size. The last time we got a phone under this series was in 2018 when the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact launched alongside the Xperia XZ2. That phone featured a 5-inch HDR display and hence was smaller in size when compared to the Xperia XZ2 which had a 5.7-inch panel. But despite being smaller in size, it packed a punch since it featured the Snapdragon 845 SOC which was the flagship SOC from Qualcomm for 2018.
Well almost three years after the launch of the XZ2 Compact, Sony is now bringing back the Compact lineup as the renders of 2021’s Sony Xperia Compact are now here which were shared by OnLeaks.
While the Xperia XZ2 Compact was a flagship phone, the 2021’s Sony Xperia Compact could very well be a mid-ranger because as we can see in the renders, there is a display with a waterdrop notch which is rarely seen these days even on budget phones. Speaking of the size, the dimensions of the phone are 140 x 68.9 x 8.9mm and the display size is around 5.5-inch. For comparison, the iPhone 12 Mini has a 5.4-inch screen and the dimensions of it are 131.5 x 64.2 x 7.4 mm. The Xperia Compact is taller because of the bezels as well because there are pretty thick bezels on the top and bottom.
Sony has placed the fingerprint scanner on the right side where it doubles as a power button and there is also the camera shutter button which has always been a highlight of Sony Xperia phones. The 3.5mm headphone jack is placed on the top and the speaker grill on the bottom means the huge bottom chin which is a shame.
Finally, the phone packs a dual-camera setup on the rear which is placed vertically on the top left corner.
Well, the specs of this phone are still unconfirmed but as per AndroidNext, this phone could feature the Snapdragon 480 SOC which is a chipset for budget phones. The website also says that it is highly possible that this phone will be exclusive to the Japanese market and won’t make its way outside Japan.
