The first FE or “Fan Edition” smartphone by Samsung under the “S” series was launched in 2020, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE. It was a solid value-for-money phone featuring the Snapdragon 865 chipset, a 120Hz AMOLED display, a great set of cameras, an IP68 rating, wireless charging, and more. Last year, the brand launched its successor, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE. The phone featured the Exynos 2100 / Snapdragon 888 chipset (depending on the region).
This year, there have been many leaks and rumors of the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE (Samsung is probably skipping the S22 FE), and today, we got our first look at the phone’s design. The renders of the S23 FE were shared by OnLeaks, in collaboration with SmartPrix.
Design-wise, the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE looks similar to any Samsung phone launched this year. So, a triple camera setup is laid vertically with no camera island. The display is flat, and the selfie camera is placed in the middle in a hole punch cutout. The volume rockers are on the right alongside the power button.
Well, there isn’t anything new in the design, but it would be interesting to see the upgrades in specifications over the S21 FE. The dimensions of the S23 FE are 158 x 76.3 x 8.2mm, so the device is not just thicker than the S21 FE but also taller and wider.
There are rumors of Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SOC powering the S23 FE, but other reports have also hinted at the Exynos 2200. The Exynos 2200 SOC powered the last year’s S22 series, and this was the first SOC with an AMD GPU. The S23 FE is also reported to feature an upgraded primary camera which should include a 50MP sensor. This sounds like the same camera sensor the Galaxy S22 & S23 have for their primary camera. The battery size is reportedly the same at 4,500mAh, and so is the charging speed at 25W.
SamMobile says the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE will launch in Q3 2023.
