We still have a quarter left before 2021 ends, and already, we have started getting leaks related to 2022’s smartphones. Samsung will be launching its Galaxy S22 series next year in the first quarter, and as we know, the main attraction is going to be the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the highest-end premium flagship for the first half of 2022 (before the new foldables come into the picture). Well, we now have the unofficial renders of Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, courtesy of OnLeaks, who shared these exclusively with Digit.in. These renders reveal that Samsung is going all out with the design by adding all of the Galaxy Note elements in the S22 Ultra.
First of all, let’s take a moment to think about that camera module. Do you remember the camera module on S21 Ultra? It was such a beautiful design that made the camera module look like it was a part of the side frame. But for some reason, the Galaxy S22 Ultra has a camera module that has a weird “P” shape. It is not even a proper rectangle. There are four cameras in this camera module, and the arrangement of the lenses is the same as on the S21 Ultra.
Another major design change this time is that we no longer have that curved design that differentiated the Galaxy S series from the Galaxy Note series. Instead, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra now has flat top and bottom sides, just as in the case of the Galaxy Note series. And that’s not it! There is also an S-Pen slot this time. So this pretty much confirms that Samsung is doing away with the Galaxy Note series, so the only flagship smartphone series apart from the foldable phones is going to the Galaxy S series.
Along with the S-Pen slot, there is the speaker grill and the USB Type-C port. On the top, there is the SIM card tray, and on the front, the display has extremely thin bezels along with a hole-punch cutout in the middle, not an in-display selfie camera.
The display is reportedly around 6.8-inches in size, which is the same sized screen as on the S21 Ultra of last year. The dimensions of the phone are 163.2 x 77.9 x 8.9mm (roughly), and when that camera bump is included, the device is 10.5mm thick at its maximum.
Well, this is just the first big leak related to the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra’s design, and since there are still months left for the launch next year, there are chances that we may not see the same design in the final phone. Still, if this is indeed the final design, then this definitely looks quite weird with that P-shaped camera module.
