Xiaomi was the first to launch a phone with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset, the Civi 4 Pro. Today, Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi launched a phone with this SOC in the Chinese market. This phone is named the Redmi Turbo 3, and it is the first smartphone under the “Turbo” series. While the Xiaomi Civi 4 Pro is a premium mid-range phone priced at ¥2999 or over $400, the Redmi Turbo 3 starts at ¥1999 or well under $300. At this price, there is no doubt that the Redmi Turbo 3 is the most powerful phone that you can get.
Design-wise, the phone has a different look, even though it follows a similar design language as the Redmi Note series. That’s probably because of the two large circles on the back, each having a camera sensor. There is a ring LED flash on the back. The frame is flat, and so is the display on the front. The phone is made of polycarbonate, the thickness is 7.8mm, and the weight is 179g.
On the front, the phone has Gorilla Glass Victus protection. It is also IP64 certified and has stereo speakers. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack.
The display is a 6.67-inch 1.5K OLED with up to 120Hz refresh rate and 2400 nits peak brightness. The display supports HDR10+ along with Dolby Vision and comes with a 12-bit color depth. There is DC dimming and 1920Hz PWM dimming.
Under the hood, there is the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, a chipset built on the 4nm process, featuring an octa-core CPU with a prime Cortex-X4 core. On the AnTuTu benchmark, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SOC scores over 1.7 Million points. This is unheard of in mid-range smartphones. The phone also has LPDDR5X RAM with UFS 4.0 storage.
The battery is 5,000mAh, and there is 90W fast charging support.
Speaking of cameras, they are pretty average on paper. There are two rear cameras – a 1/1.95″ 50MP Sony LYT-600 with OIS, and an 8MP ultrawide. The selfie camera has a 20MP sensor. The rear camera can shoot 4K videos at up to 60fps, but the front camera is limited to up to 1080p 60fps recording.
Finally, Redmi Turbo 3 runs on HyperOS, based on Android 14.
The phone comes in three color options, and here is the pricing for China –
