Redmi Note 9 Pro & Redmi Note 9 Pro Max launched in India

The much-awaited all-new Redmi Note series is official & this time, Xiaomi changed the naming style a bit. We no longer have a Redmi Note 9 as the successor to the Redmi Note 8. Instead, we have the Redmi Note 9 Pro & the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max. So, for the first time, Redmi is launching a ‘Note’ device with the ‘Pro Max’ branding.

While the non-Pro Redmi Note has always been a phone with starting price under Rs 10,000, that’s not the case this time. The Redmi Note 9 Pro starts at Rs 12,999 in India while the starting price is Rs 14,999 for the Note 9 Pro Max.

REDMI NOTE 9 PRO & REDMI NOTE 9 PRO MAX – DESIGN & SPECIFICATIONS

Both phones have the same ‘Aura Balance’ Design that includes Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the front as well as the rear, symmetrical design for the Quad camera setup on the rear, and a centred punch-hole selfie camera on the front. The colour options are also the same for both phones, i.e., Glacier White, Interstellar Black, and Aurora Blue.

Both the phones have P2i splash-proof nano-coating technology so the normal splashes of water aren’t an issue. There is a triple card slot which means you can add two SIM cards as well as a microSD card at the same time. Since there is an LCD panel on the front, the phones have a physical fingerprint scanner on the right side that also doubles as the power button.

On the front, both the Redmi Note 9 & Redmi Note 9 Pro Max feature a 6.67-inch Full-HD+ LCD panel with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The SOC powering both phones is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G & it is the same chipset that powers the recently launched Realme 6 Pro. Unlike the Realme 6 Pro, however, there is no high-refresh-rate display. The Redmi Note 9 Pro & Note 9 Pro Max have a normal 60Hz panel.

While the camera setup has the same design, the primary sensor differs on both the phones. The Redmi Note 9 Pro features a primary 48 Megapixel primary camera with a Samsung GM2 sensor and f/1.79 aperture, a secondary 8 Megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens with 119-degree FOV, a 5 Megapixel Macro camera & a fourth 2 Megapixel depth sensor.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max, on the other hand, comes with a primary 64 Megapixel Samsung GW1 sensor, a secondary 8 Megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, a third 5 Megapixel macro camera & a 2 Megapixel depth sensor. Both phones can shoot 4K 30fps videos via the primary rear camera.

The front camera is also different on both phones. While the Redmi Note 9 Pro comes with a 16 Megapixel selfie shooter, there is a 32 Megapixel selfie camera on the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max.

Both phones have a massive 5,020mAh battery, but while the Redmi Note 9 Pro features 18W fast charging, the Note 9 Pro Max comes with 33W fast charging. The fast chargers are included in the box, so that’s nice! MIUI 11 runs out of the box on top of Android 10.
