Redmi just announced a new “Note” series phone in India today, the Redmi Note 7s. As the name suggests, it sits between the Note 7 & Note 7 Pro in terms of the specifications & the pricing. As most of you already know, it is not a new device from Xiaomi. This is the global version of the Redmi Note 7 which features a 48 Megapixel primary rear camera with Samsung GM1 sensor.
The price starts at Rs 10,999 in India, which might be bad news for those who bought the Redmi Note 7 at Rs 9,999.
The design is no different than the Redmi Note 7 and Note 7 Pro. The Note 7s has the same design with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and rear, a Dot Notch on the front, a rear-facing fingerprint scanner, a vertical dual camera setup, USB Type-C port on the bottom & a headphone jack on the top.
The only difference between the Note 7 & Note 7s is that the Redmi Note 7s comes with a primary 48 Megapixel camera on the rear as compared to the 12MP camera on the Note 7. Unlike the Sony IMX 586 sensor on the Note 7 Pro, the 48MP camera on the Redmi Note 7s has a Samsung GM1 sensor.
If you don’t know, the Samsung GM1 actually takes 12MP photos & interpolates to 48MP. So, it is not a true 48MP sensor like the IMX 586. Still, on paper, it’s better than the 12MP rear camera on Redmi Note 7.
The rest of the spec sheet remains the same –
- 6.3-inch Full-HD+ IPS Display with Gorilla Glass 5
- 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor with Adreno 512 GPU
- 3/4GB RAM & 32/64GB Internal Storage (Hybrid SIM slot)
- Dual Rear Cameras – 48MP primary with Samsung GM1 sensor, f/1.79 aperture & 6P Lens + 5MP (f/2.2) Secondary depth sensor
- 13MP single front camera with f/2.0 aperture
- 4,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0 support
- Android 9 Pie with MIUI 10
The Redmi Note 7s comes in three colours – Onyx Black, Ruby Red & Sapphire Blue. The price starts at Rs 10,999 for the 3GB + 32GB variant & goes up to Rs 12,999 for the 4GB + 64GB variant. The first sale happens on 23rd May & the phone will be available via Flipkart, Mi Home & Mi.com.
