Last year, Redmi announced its new “A” series and two phones under it – Redmi A1 & Redmi A1+. Both were entry-level phones powered by the MediaTek Helio A22 chipset. Now, the company is preparing to launch the Redmi A2, and going by a report from WinFuture, the launch will take place in a few weeks in the European market. We also got the specifications & design details from the same source.
Design-wise, the Redmi A2 looks the same as the Redmi A1. It seems like Redmi used the same body and added a new chip inside. The phone still lacks a fingerprint scanner, so we will likely see the A2+ later this year. There is a waterdrop notch on the front with a big bottom bezel. The phone has a dual camera setup on the rear. The back panel has a grippy texture, so it helps in reducing the fingerprints which you would typically get with a plain plastic back.
As for the specs, Redmi A2 is powered by the MediaTek Helio G36 chipset. This chip was announced recently, almost the same as the Helio G37, except that the Cortex-A53 cores are clocked at 2.2GHz instead of 2.3GHz. The phone runs on Android 13 Go Edition.
And well, that’s it. The chip & the software are the only things new in this phone. The rest of the specifications are the same as Redmi A1. There is a 6.52-inch 720p LCD, a 5,000mAh battery with 10W charging (micro-USB port), an 8MP primary rear camera, a 2MP secondary rear camera, a 5MP selfie camera, 2GB RAM, and 32GB storage.
In the European market, Redmi A2 will launch at €96.99, which translates to around $103 or ₹8,500.
