The Redmi 12 5G was a pretty solid value-for-money smartphone from the brand last year, featuring the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset, a 5,000mAh battery, and a glass back. Today, the brand launched the Redmi 13 5G in India, which has similar specifications as its predecessor. The starting price, however, is higher at ₹13,999, versus ₹11,999 last year. But, it is worth mentioning that the base variant of the Redmi 12 5G had 4GB RAM, while the Redmi 13 5G has 6GB RAM in the base variant. So, if we compare the prices of 6GB variants, then the difference is ₹500.
Speaking of the design, there are two noticeable design updates – color options & the ring flash. Apart from these two, the phone looks identical to its predecessor. The back is made of glass, and the phone is IP53-certified. There is Gorilla Glas 3 protection for the display. The top has a 3.5mm headphone jack and an IR blaster. On the side, the phone has a fingerprint scanner. There is a single bottom-firing speaker.
Under the hood, the Redmi 13 5G has the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 AE chipset, where “AE” stands for “Accelerated Edition.” The CPU is clocked at up to 2.3GHz, versus 2.2GHz in the regular version. The storage type is UFS 2.2.
There is a 5,030mAh battery with 33W fast charging support. For comparison, the Redmi 12 5G had 18W fast charging support. The display is a 6.79-inch 120Hz LCD with a Full-HD+ resolution.
The Redmi 13 5G has a dual camera setup on the rear – a 108MP sensor for the primary camera and a 2MP sensor for the secondary camera. The selfie camera has a 13MP sensor. For comparison, the Redmi 12 5G had a 50MP primary camera and an 8MP selfie camera.
Finally, HyperOS runs out of the box.
